International WorkBoat Show to Present Workforce Day, with Workforce Seminars and a Louisiana Workforce Commission Career Fair

The International WorkBoat Show will present Workforce Day on Dec. 3 at the 2015 Show. It will include a Maritime Workforce Career Fair presented by the Louisiana Workforce Commission and a series of panel presentations on workforce development.

This new addition to the International WorkBoat Show schedule is designed to match up workers with companies in the commercial marine industry.

NEW ORLEANS, LA, October 08, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- There are almost 55,000 maritime jobs in Louisiana that contribute over $11.3 billion annually to the state's economy, according to a study commissioned by the Transportation Institute last year. The study, conducted by Pricewaterhouse-Coopers (PwC), said that Louisiana also ranked No. 1 in the U.S. in maritime jobs per capita, with one in every 83 jobs connected to the state's domestic maritime industry.

What jobs are currently available in the maritime industry? What types of skills are needed? How can job seekers hook up with training programs and maritime businesses? How can maritime businesses attract new employees? How will the industry replace an aging workforce?

To answer these questions and others, the International WorkBoat Show will present Workforce Day at the 2015 Show. It will include a Maritime Workforce Career Fair presented by the Louisiana Workforce Commission and a series of panel presentations on workforce development.

Workforce Day will take place on day three of the 2015 WorkBoat Show, Thursday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

"This new addition to the International WorkBoat Show schedule is designed to match up workers with companies in the commercial marine industry," said David Krapf, editor in chief of WorkBoat magazine.

According to maritime employers surveyed by the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry and the Louisiana Community Technical College System, companies will need as many as 3,000 additional employees for maritime operations in Louisiana in the next five years.
