Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Sandra L. Aponte as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

    STATEN ISLAND, NY, November 14, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sandra L. Aponte, Laboratory Director for Urology Group of New Jersey, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Sandra L. Aponte will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015/2016.

Sandra L. Aponte, MD, MBA, FCAP, FASCP is a Physician with specialties in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Cytopathology. Beginning her career in healthcare in 1993, Dr. Aponte became a Fellow of the College of American Pathology (CAP) and of the American Society of Clinical Pathology and was trained by the CAP in Advocacy and as a spokesperson for the pathology community affairs.

"I was raised by a single mother in an educated, yet middle class family, enduring difficult financial times," Dr. Aponte said. "The elder of four children, many responsibilities fell on my shoulders as a child. I became very driven, I studied, worked hard, and always worked towards making myself a better human being and a more educated person."

Currently serving as a Pathology Laboratory Director for Urology Group of New Jersey since 2015, Dr. Aponte is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, including a CAP Scholarship for Spokesperson School, the Janet M. Glasgow Achievement Award through the American Medical Women's Association, and several prizes for her scholarly research and writing. She is the author of eight journal articles, some of which have been included in American Journal of Clinical Pathology, American College of Physicians, and United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

With plans of relocating to Florida in the near future to continue her career in the private laboratory sector, Dr. Aponte received her Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Puerto Rico and her MD at the Universidad Central de Caribe. She also holds her MBA with a concentration in Healthcare from New York Institute of Technology.
