CHICAGO, IL, January 20, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Firecakes Donuts opens a new Lincoln Park store location at 2453 N. Clark (773-666-5277).
Owners Jonathan and Karen Fox have created Firecakes Donuts Shops to give customers the same exhilarating sensory experience that people used to get at the traditional neighborhood donut shop. The aroma of freshly baking donuts permeates the air; customers see the fresh-baked donuts as they are carried on trays in small batches to the front counter. Fresh batches are prepared throughout the day. The specially chosen ingredients are as fresh as can be, purchased from local sources. "We strive to take something simple and make it special," said Chef Jonathan. "We use the best traditional donut recipes and apply sophisticated techniques to produce layers of flavor that take our donuts to another level. For example, we don't just roll our coconut donuts in shredded coconut. Rather, we roll them in three different kinds of coconut, each with a different texture, making the experience much more interesting and tasty."
"The Firecakes team is very passionate about making donuts that are memorable and of high quality, that keep folks coming back for more," said Jonathan. "Fortunately, we've succeeded in doing so, as represented by the opening of this great new store."
Firecakes is rolling out some special items just in time for the new Lincoln Park store opening, including Cinnamon Rolls, a Bigger Bacon Long John (maple cream filled with peppered candied bacon), and a Black & White donut. They are available at all locations.
Firecakes' signature flavors include Honey Glazed, Maple Glazed Pineapple & Bacon, Butterscotch Praline, Coconut Cream, Honey Glazed, Chocolate Hazelnut Long John, Valrhona Chocolate Iced, Valrhona Chocolate & Espresso Cream, Triple Valrhona Chocolate Cake, Malted Milk Ball, Old Fashioned Buttermilk, Vanilla Iced, Classic Jelly, Peanut Butter Cup. Current seasonal selections are Chocolate Old Fashioned, Apple Cinnamon Fritter, Valrhona Chocolate Iced Old Fashioned, Sicilian Pistachio Old Fashioned, Peanut Butter & Jelly.
The Story Behind the Firecakes Name
The "Billy" Donut Truck is named after Billy Hobes, great grandfather of Karen Fox. He was a baker in Wisconsin, baking in the logging camps in Northern Wisconsin. As the story goes, he baked breads and pastries every day and once a week he would make donuts over an open fire--they became known as Billy's Firecakes, the inspiration behind the name Firecakes.
