Warner Norcross to Host Data Solutions Symposium in Grand Rapids

Warner Norcross & Judd LLP will host a Data Solutions Symposium on Friday, March 11 in Grand Rapids.



    GRAND RAPIDS, MI, February 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The half-day program will feature updates and best practices on records information management, data security and privacy and eDiscovery issues. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the Kroc Community Center, 2500 S. Division Ave. SW, and the program wraps up after a networking lunch shortly after noon.

"There's a lot at stake when it comes to data," said Jay Yelton, a partner at Warner Norcross and co-chair of the Data Solutions Practice Group. "According to the Ponemon Institute, the average cost of a data breach in the United States is $230 per record and $6.53 million per breach.

"Every day, organizations collect information that is protected by increasingly stringent privacy regulations. It is essential in today's world to know those laws - and to know how to ensure confidentiality."

The first session at 9 a.m. will be a panel discussion titled: "Who's Responsible: A Data Breach Case Study." IT professionals and Warner attorneys will conduct a tabletop exercise that mirrors a real-world scenario. The panel will explore the legal and practical issues involved in the selection and use of a cloud vendor, including initial vetting, ongoing monitoring, and an eventual data breach.

During the first round of breakout sessions, attendees can choose from:
"eDiscovery: What Role Should an Organization's IT Department Play in the Discovery Process," which will focus on when and how an organization's IT department should be involved in the discovery process. Recommendations will also be provided on training and software tools for IT personnel.
"Records Information Management: Utilizing Technology Assisted Review to Reduce an Organization's Redundant, Obsolete and Trivial Data" will discuss best practices for the legal disposal of outdates and unnecessary data while leveraging technology assisted review tools.
"Data Privacy/Security: Privacy and Security Update" will bring attendees up to date with the latest developments in privacy and security law, including statutory and regulatory developments in the U.S., the European Union and other countries, legal fall-out from recent data breaches and the implications of recent enforcement actions.
Attendees can select from the following sessions during the second round of breakouts:
"eDiscovery: Internal Corporate Investigations - Using Tools to Discover the Truth Quickly and Inexpensively," which will help attendees understand relevant data and the essential role it plays in a successful internal corporate investigation. The session will include a step-by-step demonstration of Relativity's data analytics for an internal investigation.
"Records Information Management: Building a Business Case for Information Governance Improvements" will provide guidance on how to secure top-down support by developing a compelling information governance business case.
"Data Privacy/Security: Is Your Privacy Policy Up-to-Date?" will focus on issues companies need to address in their website privacy policies in response to recent statutes and regulations, litigation and regulatory enforcement actions.
