WILMINGTON, NC, March 03, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein has announced a free download of the trailer for her new short film, 'The Truth'. 'The Truth' was accepted into the Garden State Film Festival. The new short film addresses issues that affect teens and tweens. While many young people struggle with these kinds of issues every day, parents, grandparents and educators may struggle just to even understand the issues involved. Many of the issues young people must face today, such as cyberbullying, did not even exist just a few year ago.

The film is based on her book, 'Secrets: Diary Of A Gutsy Tween', which was recently awarded a Silver Medal in the 2015 Moonbeam Book Awards in the Pre-Teen Fiction category.

As a Positive Psychologist, Dr. Holstein is dedicated to helping teens and tweens build self esteem. Much of her focus is on social media and how it affects young people.

In the storyline, a young girl shares her experiences, feelings and perceptions about important issues - falling in love, hating her mother, hating her parents fighting, being afraid to grow up, being upset that they may move, loving the locket her aunt gives her and feeling loved in ways by her aunt that her parents can't seem to muster, wishing the boy she is in love with would grow taller, confronting her disappointment that she has no relationship with him, sharing her glee at having a best friend and confiding in each other, coming to terms with growing up, letting go of the her first love, getting ready to move and more.

"A friend asked me, 'How does it feel as a psychologist, to now have the opportunity to see my film 'The Truth, a Short Film' accepted at the Garden State Film Festival and have your play version, 'The Locket' go into rehearsal?'

"I told her that as a psychologist it is thrilling as a lot of my life work is embedded in my two books, 'The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween' and 'Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen', upon which 'The Truth, A Short Film' and 'The Locket' are based. Finally I can begin to see critical issues in growing up brought to life in film and drama. I am particularly smitten with the notion of 'Self'. It is critical in growing up to hold on to the best parts of ourselves and be able to access them. It is also critical to be able to get in touch with the early wisdom and playfulness that all of us once had. In the film version, the girl is able to find a secret way to hold on to the best of herself. And in the play version, 'The Locket', Self actually comes alive as an imaginary but very real character, to help all of us remember our essential being.

"As a woman, seeing my work merge from the treatment room, to books, to a film and a play, all I can say is I am elated. I hope I serve as a role model for many, many women and girls. If I can be true to my 'Self', you can be true to your Self. I am no different from you. There is a kid inside of you with brilliance, energy and courage. She has stamina and determination and a sense of humor. You just have to find her again or if you already have found her, start running and funning. The world will be better off for you sharing your talents."

"My friend laughed and said, 'You just made up a new word, 'Funning'. I love it. I see what you mean. No adult psychologist would think of that word. I bet the kid inside of you came up with it.'"
