Gwen Beloti Collection to Host 2nd Annual Dressess for Little Dresses for Africa

Community service project in support of non-profit organizatioin LDFA - We're making dresses and shorts for children.

NEW YORK, NY, March 05, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- What: 100 Dresses for Little Dresses for Africa is a community service event which involves the making of clothing for children in Africa and other countries. Volunteers collectively assist with the simple and basic production of these garments.

Who: Womenswear brand Gwen Beloti Collection in support of not for profit
organization Little Dresses for Africa (LDFA) organizes a group of volunteers to assist with making practical yet cute dresses for little girls and now shorts for boys. With the assistance of the community and volunteers from across the tri-state area who have an interest in giving back, fashion, or both the group gathers to support the cause.

Why: Gwen Beloti Collection founded in 2008 has collaborated with the founder of
LDFA Rachel O'Neill on small projects over the years in support of the organization. This project specifically, 100 Dresses for LDFA, organized by Gwen Beloti is a result of a pledge Gwen made on Giving Tuesday the past two years. Giving Tuesday is recognized as the national day of service. In 2014-2015 Gwen Beloti pledged to make 100 dresses for LDFA. This year the volunteers will not only be making dresses for girls but shorts for boys as well.

How: Collectively a group of devoted volunteers gather to achieve a goal, the making of
necessary garments for children in Africa, dresses for girls and shorts for boys. This team of volunteers use simple and basic sewing and design techniques to put together the dresses and shorts. They are an integral part of a casual and fun assembly line which consists of various stations supervised by station leaders. Each station has a very specific and vital set of tasks, starting with cutting all the way to embellishing and pressing. The motivation is the goal at hand, a count is kept throughout the day of the number of pieces made thus far and the volunteers work accordingly.

The volunteers use trimmings such as laces, buttons, pockets, bows and ribbons to decorate the dresses formerly pillowcases. What starts out as a simple, plain not very exciting bed decor become a wearable piece of clothing made with love. Every volunteer whether they have a design background or not serves in a designer capacity on this day.

When: Saturday, June 25th 2016, 10am to 1pm (morning session), 2pm to 5pm
(afternoon session).

Where: BAX Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Brooklyn NY
