The IBF world heavyweight title will be on the line on Saturday, April 9 when Britain's Anthony Joshua challenges American Charles Martin at the O2 Arena in London.

Since turning professional, former Olympic gold medallist Joshua has compiled a perfect 15-0 record to climb the heavyweight ranks, stopping every single one of his opponents to capture the imagination of the British public. Domestic veterans Matt Skelton and Michael Sprott have been dispatched in short order, while Joshua made a statement when he destroyed Kevin Johnson in less than two rounds last year, becoming the first man to stop the former world title challenger who had previously gone the distance with the likes of Vitali Klitschko and Tyson Fury.

Pundits, professionals and fans are all predicting a bright future for the Watford-born pugilist, with many tipping him to be Britain's best heavyweight fighter since the legendary Lennox Lewis reigned over the division, and the 26-year-old can take another step towards greatness by dethroning Martin on April 9.

Martin, who is also unbeaten with a 23-0-1 record, was given the opportunity to fight for the IBF title back in January following ruling body's decision to strip newly-crowned champion Tyson Fury of the belt just days after he toppled Wladimir Klitschko. Martin took home the belt when his opponent, Vyacheslav Glazkov, suffered an injury in the third round of the bout and was unable to continue.

The 29-year-old American will be desperate to avoid being a one-hit wonder, but the bookmakers are predicting his IBF title reign will be brief, having made Joshua a clear odds-on favourite despite the fact the challenger has only had 15 professional outings and has been past the third round just once in his career. This title shot may have come early in his career, but Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, has admitted it was an opportunity his fighter could not turn down.

"Life is all about taking opportunities and when the chance to become heavyweight champion of the world presented itself, there was no holding Anthony back," Hearn said. "He wants to give the fans something to get excited about and he wants to become a great... his mind was already made up from the moment I asked him."
