New York Attorney Carol L. Schlitt Wins $235,300 Verdict Against MTA in Bus Accident Case

A Manhattan jury finds the defendants to be 100 percent liable for the broken leg injury suffered by a woman who was traveling aboard a Nassau County Bus.

This verdict is a testament to the jury system and the tenacity of our litigation team. I am pleased that we were able to obtain justice at trial for our client.

HUNTINGTON, NY, March 17, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Schlitt Law Firm announced today that a Manhattan jury has returned a verdict awarding the firm's client, Ms. Tammy Williams, $235,300 in a personal injury case against the Metropolitan Transit Agency (MTA) and the former Nassau County Bus.

The litigation arose when the driver of a Nassau County Bus caused Ms. Williams to fall and suffer a broken leg, according to the firm. The jury awarded the damages to Ms. Williams after finding the defendants to be 100 percent liable for causing her injuries. (The case is docketed as Index #150141/2012).

The defendants contested liability, but attorney Carol L. Schlitt used the incident report, deposition testimony and ambulance report to support Ms. Williams' version of events and to undermine the claims of the defendant bus driver, the firm stated.

"I am so happy that I had Carol as my lawyer. She believed in me and fought for me," Ms. Williams said.

According to Ms. Schlitt, Ms. Williams gave the following simple and straightforward account of events to the jury: She boarded the bus, and the driver pulled out before Ms. Williams could sit or secure herself. The jerking motion of the bus threw her to the ground and caused her injury.

The bus driver claimed she had not moved the bus. However, her own written reports indicated the she had moved it, Ms. Schlitt said.

"We used a combination of maps, written documents and testimony to show the jury what really happened here and how Ms. Williams suffered her injury," Ms. Schlitt said.

Ms. Schlitt said that she had offered to settle the case before the trial, but the defendants made a minimum offer that did not represent justice for her client.

"When we cannot settle for good value, we aggressively prosecute our cases. At heart, I am a trial attorney who relishes going into the courtroom and fighting for my clients," Ms. Schlitt said.

"This verdict is a testament to the jury system and the tenacity of our litigation team," she added. "I am pleased that we were able to obtain justice at trial for our client."
