San Fernando Valley Skin Doctor, Dr. Peyman Ghasri, Warns Against Skin Cancer and Suggests Preventive Measures

Millions of Americans will be diagnosed this year with skin cancer. Know what measures to take to avoid the chances of risk.

TARZANA, CA, March 25, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Skin cancer is the most prevalent cancer in the U.S., and a million Americans will likely be diagnosed this year. The most common types of skin cancers are basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, but the most serious type of skin cancer is malignant melanoma. All skin cancers are most effectively treated when found early. Dr. Peyman Ghasri, dermatologist in San Fernando Valley, warns against skin cancer and suggests preventive measures to help keep skin healthier.

Some of the most basic ways to protect against skin cancer include:

- Knowing risk factors
The risk of skin cancer is highest in those with many freckles, those with a family history of the disease, those with fair hair, those with blue eyes, and those with a tendency to sunburn. However, it can affect anyone at any age.

- Avoiding or limiting exposure
Limit the amount of time spent in direct sunlight. Wear broad-brimmed hats, and long-sleeved shirts, and pants to reduce the amount of skin exposed to the sun. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 15 or higher to all exposed skin at least 30 minutes before going outside. Wear sunglasses and a lip balm with sunscreen in it, and try to stay in the shade between 10 am and 4 pm.

- Performing self-checks
Checking skin monthly for suspicious lesions, sores, moles, or changing spots can help you identify areas of concern earlier. Bring these spots to the attention of Dr. Ghasri as soon as possible for a skin cancer biopsy or closer examination.

Skin cancer can occur at any age and can affect those even without risk factors. Dr. Ghasri recommends regular skin checks at home and annual professional checks. Dr. Ghasri offers comprehensive skin cancer screening as well as treatment. He also offer treatment for eczema, rosacea, acne and other skin problems, as well as cosmetic skin care, such as dermal fillers, Botox, and hair removal treatments.
