HUNTSVILLE, AL, April 21, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Morris King & Hodge, P.C. is pleased to announce that attorneys Joe A. King Jr. and Joey Aiello along with a local co-counsel recently obtained a $925,000 verdict for a client seriously injured by falling freight in an on-the-job accident.

After hearing evidence in the case Howard Luttrell v. Dolgencorp, LLC, a Lauderdale County, Alabama jury on April 15 awarded a favorable verdict and compensatory damages to Mr. Luttrell, a truck driver who sustained neck and shoulder injuries when he attempted to unload a trailer at a Dollar General store in Florence, Alabama. Mr. Luttrell was represented by Mr. King and Mr. Aiello of Morris, King & Hodge, P.C. in Huntsville, and Albert Trousdale of Trousdale Ryan, P.C. in Florence.

"This case reflects our strong commitment to helping hard working people who sustain injuries through no fault of their own collect the compensation they need to pay their medical expenses and move forward with their lives," said Mr. King of Morris King and Hodge. "We are privileged to be able to use our legal skills to help others."

Mr. Luttrell was injured by falling freight while attempting to open the doors to unload a truck trailer on Feb. 21, 2011. Dollar General had loaded the trailer and secured the load with a metal strip that serves as a seal and prevents drivers and those who are unauthorized from opening the doors of the trailer.

Mr. Luttrell had picked up the trailer at the Dollar General Distribution Center in Scottsville, Kentucky and delivered the trailer to a Dollar General store located at 11300 Highway 20 in Florence, Alabama. At the store, the Dollar General manager cut the seal. After the seal was cut by the manager, Mr. Luttrell opened the trailer door to unload the trailer.

Mr. Luttrell was struck by multiple storage bin totes which fell out of the trailer from the top of a rolltainer, which is a portable storage cart on wheels. Dollar General's policy prohibited totes from being loaded on top of rolltainers. When he opened the left door of the trailer, multiple totes fell and struck Mr. Luttrell's head, shoulder and neck. The improperly loaded totes caused Mr. Luttrell to suffer neck and shoulder injuries.

The attorneys presented evidence showing that Mr. Luttrell's medical bills equaled approximately $100,000. The jury returned a unanimous verdict in favor of Mr. Luttrell, who was the plaintiff in the personal injury lawsuit and awarded him $925,000 in compensatory damages.
