Barrio Dogs Announces 2nd Perro de Mayo Fundraiser

Event organizers seek to raise money to fund the FixIt! free spay/neuter program for low income residents, as well as other valuable programs designed to increase awareness of proper animal care in Houston's East End.

HOUSTON, TX, April 22, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Building on the success of last year's event, Barrio Dogs is happy to announce that the 2nd Annual Perro de Mayo fundraiser will take place on Sunday, May 15th from 3pm to 7pm at the Continental Club, 3700 Main Street. Hosted by KPFT's Rick Heysquierdo, the event will be open to the public and will feature live music, a silent auction, a Barrio Tamale Dinner, and a raffle. Admission is $15, and advance tickets are available on Eventbrite. All proceeds will go directly to Barrio Dogs to support their rescue mission and community programs.

Rick Heysquierdo has put together a fantastic music lineup including Austin's favorite outlaw country band Mike and the Moonpies, the honky tonk sounds of Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue from New Orleans, and the Latin jazz fusion of Houston's own Zenteno Spirit. DJ Jason will be spinning vintage vinyl in the backyard, where you can bid on items in our Silent Auction. There also will be an Art Auction featuring the work of many renowned Texas artists. Your $15 donation at the door will also be an entry for a raffle that will award valuable prizes, including a new iPad, a retro-style bicycle, a basket full of gift cards valued at over $500, and so much more. Heights printmaker Carlos Hernandez will be creating new artwork, including a new limited-edition t-shirt, which will be available for sale at this event.

"We rely heavily on our friends and volunteers," says Gloria Zenteno, founder of Barrio Dogs. "Their support is invaluable to us and helps us continue our work in the community." Everyone who is putting together this annual fundraising event is donating their time, for the love of the animals that so desperately need our help.

About Barrio Dogs
Many Houstonian's are not aware that we have one of the highest homeless animal populations in the country. The mission of Barrio Dogs is to stop this problem at the core. In addition to rescuing stray and abused dogs, this volunteer group has been working in Houston's Greater East End since 2010, hosting events in neighborhood schools, businesses and civic associations with the mission of raising awareness about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering pets. They teach residents that animal birth control and humane treatment and care of pets will create safer, healthier, higher property value communities for themselves and their families. All of their amazing work is done by volunteers. To learn more, visit Barrio Dogs at www.barriodogs.org.
