FORT MORGAN, CO, April 28, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julie Nichols, Director of Career Pathways and Adult Education at Morgan Community College, has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in adult basic education.

Ms. Nichols has 34 years of experience and recently celebrated 20 years in her position with Morgan Community College. Having been raised in a farming family that valued education and hard work, she joined the teaching profession with a sincere desire to instruct people on how to learn rather than simply what to learn. In her first year of teaching, she encountered some challenging students and laid the foundation for the rest of her career in alternative education settings. Today, she oversees programming for pre-college adults to take classes in language, social studies, math and science, as well as English for speakers of other languages.

In her position, Ms. Nichols helps adults obtain High School Equivalency certification, significantly increasing their opportunities for professional advancement and higher earning potentials. She also looks for ways to tailor the curriculum to individual needs and learning styles, realizing that a one-size-fits-all approach to education could allow some people to slip through the cracks. Working with students aged 17 to 69, she has experience dealing with diverse groups of people and helping them to identify and capitalize on their strengths.

Ms. Nichols is a member of the Colorado Adult Education Professional Association, the Mountain Plains Adult Education Professional Association, and the Commission on Adult Basic Education. She holds a master's degree in education and curriculum with an emphasis on ethics and justice from Concordia University, as well as a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Wayne State College. Her most recent recognition is the 2016 Crystal Apple Making A Difference Award, presented conjointly by the Morgan County RE-3 School District and Morgan Community College in Fort Morgan to an educator who has made a difference in the lives of community members. Ms. Nichols has seen over 10,000 student enrollments in her 20 years in Adult Basic Education, in addition to the elementary students she taught prior to joining the college. She has been recognized as a 2015 Elite American Educator for her contributions to the lives of countless learners and the field of education as a whole.
