Tech companies Microsoft, Facebook, Pandora, and Dogtown Media partnered with Congressman Danny K. Davis and community leaders are holding a historic Youth Technology Town Hall at Google's Chicago headquarters on Friday, June 17th.

STEM education is the answer to creating economic opportunities for the youth and bridging the ever-growing tech talent gap

CHICAGO, IL, June 17, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Over 400 students from local Elementary, High Schools, and Universities are attending the inaugural youth tech summit. The event is particularly exciting for students eager to get experience building tech products, with a combination of hands-on workshops and career guidance speakers.

The town hall seeks to educate and to inspire students to take an interest in the technology sector, especially as it relates to career pathways. Congressman Danny K. Davis aims to bridge the divide between technologists and educators, matching needs with resources in school systems across the nation.

Marc Fischer of Dogtown Media, a prominent Chicago mobile app developer will lead several interactive workshops to inspire students to become creators of meaningful technology. Students will get an opportunity to build their own startup teams and use creative thinking strategies to bring their App ideas to life.

"Tech education advocacy is a top priority for all forward-thinking companies," said Fischer. "We're in a situation where over half a million science and technology jobs go unfilled annually -- yet only one in nine schools are offering computer science programs. STEM education is the answer to creating economic opportunities for the youth and bridging the ever-growing tech talent gap."

This disparity is particularly striking considering government initiatives to increase STEM performance among US students have been slow to produce results.

The Youth Technology Town Hall will continue as a quarterly series of town halls to bring together youth, government officials, technology industry leaders, business community, educators, economic developers, and policy makers.

Dogtown Media is a rapidly growing Los Angeles iPhone app developer with a presence in New York City, Chicago, and London. Since 2011, Dogtown has launched over 100 mobile products for Fortune 500 organizations and the startup community.
