MATAWAN, NJ, July 02, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pop singer Lovari will be on hand during "Shark Centennial", the 100th Year Anniversary of shark attacks that occured in Matawan, NJ, to screen his directorial debut film "Shore Thing".

The series of attacks along the Jersey Shore, believed to be the work of the same shark, occurred over a twelve day period in the summer of 1916. On July 1st, Charles VanSant was killed along Beach Haven in Atlantic City. July 6th brought another fatality, this time in Spring Lake, where Charles Bruder was bitten in waist deep water. The most notorious of these events culminated on July 12th in a freshwater creek in Matawan, where an 11 year old boy Lester Stillwell was killed, and an hour later, a would be rescuer, Stanley Fisher was attacked in the same vicinity while searching for the boy. Half a mile down the creek, a third victim - and only survivor - Joseph Dunn, narrowly escaped a head injury from the shark. Two days later, a juvenille great white shark was captured and killed a few miles from Matawan Creek in Raritan Bay. When eviscerated, 15 pounds of human flesh were discovered ingested.

To commemorate the 100th Anniversary this year, the town of Matawan, New Jersey is holding "Shark Centennial", a week long event which will include guided tours of the attack site, residencies of the victims, a monument dedication, and the screening of three films that were inspired by the attacks, including the classic blockbuster "Jaws", directed by Stephen Spielberg, the historical book turned film "Twelve Days Of Terror", written by Dr. Richard Fernicola, and the fictional docudrama "Shore Thing", directed by Lovari and James Hill.

When asked what prompted the singer/actor to foray into film directing and of this particular subject, he said, "I've been fascinated with sharks since I was five years old, when my grandparents took me to Jones Beach in Long Island, NY, and the lifeguard cleared us out of the water because of a shark sighting."

Aside from researching about the attacks through books and the internet, Lovari also took an internship for the summer at The Coney Island Aquarium in Brooklyn, NY. "That is hands down, one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to assist in feeding the sharks with a pole, preparing their meals of fish and vitamins, and even made daily visits to their onsite rehabilitation center to observe a healing shark during my lunch break."
