Tampa Youth Baseball Team Headed to the Pony Mustang League World Series

The Tampa Skyway 10U Mustang All-Stars earned a place in the Mustang League World Series.

TAMPA, FL, August 03, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Tampa Skyway 10U Mustang All-Stars have earned a place in the Pony Mustang League World Series being held in Youngsville, Louisiana beginning on August 4, 2016. Skyway Park is located 3901 George Road in Tampa, Hillsborough County under the leadership of VP of baseball Frank Rutig and President Diana Reta.

The team has successfully advanced through three PONY tournaments beginning in Brandon, Florida for Districts, Royal Palm Beach, Florida for Regionals and last week in Youngsville, Louisiana for Zone Championships. The team's record through the three tournaments is a stellar 18 wins and one loss.

"From the first practice in May the Manager and coaching staff agreed that the team was a very special bunch of boys," said Coach Josh Kurella. "Not only are they dedicated and hardworking, but the chemistry between the players, coaches, and parents has been the formula for success. Although the team comprises of nine-and-10 years-olds, their composure, team work and perseverance is amazing. They are even-keeled while under pressure and never seem to get down regardless of the opponent or game situation."

The team has been dominant, undefeated throughout districts and regionals. In the 16-team Southern Zone Championship, where teams are eliminated after two losses, Skyway lost its first game. This did not deter them as the team fought, with their backs against the wall, to win seven straight games to become the South Zone Champions and propel Skyway to its first World Series appearance.

The World Series is being held in Youngsville, Louisiana and includes eight teams from the USA, Caribbean, Mexico, and Asia Pacific.

While the team is excited to be a part of the World Series, they're also facing some hurdles. Attending the series has significant associated costs, including hotel rooms for 11 families for two weeks and related travel expenses. For this reason, the team has set up a GoFundMe page in the hope of raising funds to help recover their travel, hotel, and meal expenses.

This is the first time the Skyway Mustang All-Stars will appear in the Pony Mustang League World Series. Their first game in the World Series is on Thursday, August 4, against the North Zone Champions hailing from Chicago.
