Panel Discussion on Terrorism and EMDR Therapy at EMDR International Association Conference in Minneapolis

Panelists will discuss terrorism and the effects that EMDR therapy has on alleviating PTSD.

    MINNEAPOLIS, MN, August 22, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- There will be a panel discussion on Terrorism and EMDR Therapy Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the at the EMDR International Association Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, 1300 Nicollet Mall. The panel will speak from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the Regency Room.

The panelists are Gisette Uthroff Psy.D. of Counseling Team International and a member of the professional mental health team that went to San Bernardino; Catherine Butler, LMFT., co-Chair of the San Diego Trauma Recovery Network; Carol Martin, Executive Director of Trauma Recovery; and Isabel Fernandez, Ph.D., President of EMDR Europe. The panel is chaired by the EMDRIA Past President, Ira Dressner, Ph.D., LCSW, who did pro-bono counseling for people in New York City post 9/11.

Panelists will discuss the recent terrorism events occurring in the United States and Europe and the response by EMDR clinicians. A case study will be presented of the San Bernardino shooting and how EMDR therapy was used with people who developed PTSD due to the incident.

In addition, the panel will discuss what types of coordination and cooperation are needed to unite different agencies of government, first responders, and the public to receive help from EMDR therapy and how it can resolve difficulties with the use of early EMDR intervention protocols.
