NEW YORK, NY, August 22, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Purelements hosts third annual "Bike East," cycling tour and community festival, at Linden Park/Gershwin Park on August 27th at 10am featuring concert performance by revolutionary Hip-Hop duo Dead Prez.

Bike East culminates East Brooklyn Biking's 2016 season in the East New York and Brownsville community with a full day lineup of bike tours, arts and crafts activities for children, vendor marketplace, live music and a post-tour concert. This year's Bike East will activate the 28 miles of new bike lanes striped in East New York and Brownsville in May 2016. The cycling event was developed by Purelements Co-founder Kevin Joseph to promote cycling as a health and community asset to members of the East Brooklyn communities and beyond. Joseph believes that Bike East will empower members of the East Brooklyn community to invest in their health, their community and to encourage unity through biking.

DJ Styff will set the sounds at the start/finish line through the morning leading up to the stage concert with Brooklyn's own, The Experi3nce, followed by headliners Dead Prez. Food, drink and fitness activity vendors include East New York Farms, Wonali Natural Beverages and others.

East Brooklyn Biking's 2016 season kicked off in May 2016 with the Brownsville/East New York Bike Lane inauguration, followed by a Stop the Violence in Our Community bike tour in partnership with the NYPD and the Brooklyn Nets. Summer events included Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and NPCA's "The Epic Ride," Recycle-a- Bicycle and East New York Farms! Pop-Up Bike Repair Shop and Bike New York. East Brooklyn Biking's programs also included weekly group bike rides with Purelements at Gershwin Park, the Brownsville Ride Club at Brownsville Recreation Center and Live Light Live Right's Ride Club at Brookdale Hospital during the month of July.

"The perception among many residents and community leaders is that East New York and Brownsville are not biking communities. This is because they have historically been overlooked when it comes to resources like biking infrastructure," said Deputy Commissioner and Director of the Center for Health Equity, Dr. Aletha Maybank. "Events like Bike East help activate the network of bike lanes in those communities to encourage more people to choose biking as a safe and fun activity."
