Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Linda L. Spaulding, RN, BC, CIC as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Spaulding, President and Chief Executive Officer of Inco and Associates International, Inc., has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Linda L. Spaulding, RN, BC, CIC was recently featured in a 2014 edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine.

Originally a Registered Nurse by trade, Linda L. Spaulding has since spent the last 24 years studying and educating people about infectious disease as President and Chief Executive Officer of Inco and Associates International Inc. The Florida-based business has Spaulding on the front line tracking, isolating, and conquering dangerous microbes that threaten the health and the lives of our country, including everything from Ebola and bioterrorism to hepatitis and pandemic influenza.

Over the past near quarter century, Inco and Associates International, Inc. has grown into an international infection prevention business that works in all areas of healthcare. Earning numerous awards throughout the years for her work, including a 2011 Hero of the Year Award for Infection Prevention from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, a 2011 Women of the Year Award from National Association of Professional Women, a 2007 Tampa Region Award from Emergency Preparedness, and a 2003 National Educator of the Year Award from Infection Control Today, Spaulding has also spent time in Tokyo, Japan developing multiple infection prevention education programs that were later translated into Japanese and used to educate hospital medical staff.

"I first became interested in this specialty while I was still a nurse," Spaulding said, noting that she was living and working on the Hawaiian island of Oahu at the time. "As a Telemetry/Transplant Manager, I was covering for the hospital's transplant coordinator one day and I was able to sit in on heart transplant surgery. It was my job to ensure that the patient didn't get an infection once he went back to his room. That's when I realized just how important infection prevention was."

Becoming a Hospital Accreditation Surveyor and a Managing Infection Risk (MIR) Surveyor for DNVGL Healthcare in 2014, Spaulding is now able to survey hospitals whose goals are to reduce the risk of infection and improve patient outcome through an innovative assessment of patient care and infection risk. The MIR certification will help hospitals to understand their strengths, as well as their vulnerabilities, in order to continue making healthcare safer for each of their patients.
