Kalfus & Nachman Joins In with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to Raise Awareness for Teen Driver Safety Week

Accident attorneys encourage parents to set '5 to Drive' rules for their teens who drive

Conversations with parents shape young people in so many ways, and good driving is no exception. Our firm is proud to help raise awareness to keep teens safe.

NORFOLK, VA, October 13, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Personal injury law firm Kalfus & Nachman announced Tuesday that it is teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign to encourage safety awareness for teen drivers and parents. National Teen Driver Safety Week - beginning Sunday, Oct. 16, and ending Sunday, Oct. 22 - is an opportunity for parents to talk to their teenage children & their friends about safe driving and establish ground rules for avoiding danger on the road.

"Teenagers are a precious asset, and it's up to the parents to start safety conversations to help these new drivers avoid accidents," said Paul Hernandez, an attorney at Kalfus & Nachman. "Conversations with parents shape young people in so many ways, and good driving is no exception. Our firm is proud to help raise awareness to keep teens safe."

The theme for this year's Teen Driver Safety Week is again "5 to Drive." This campaign seeks to provide parents with five rules they can set that will keep their children safe before they get behind the wheel and when they're on the road.

The NHTSA has created a wealth of free online materials visualizing "5 to Drive," from infographics to videos to custom post-it note images. The rules are:

- Putting away cell phones

- Not driving with too many passengers

- Obeying the speed limit

- Never drinking and driving, and calling for a ride if a friend tries to drink and drive

- Wearing a seatbelt

Car accidents are the leading cause of death in the 15-19 year age group. According to the most recent data, in 2014 nearly 2,700 teen drivers were involved in fatal auto accidents.

For Kalfus & Nachman, National Teen Driver Safety Week is an opportunity to continue its community involvement in awareness campaigns that strive to keep Virginia's roads safe. The firm is a proud supporter of campaigns to end distracted driving, prevent drunk driving and more.
