Women of Distinction Magazine Selects Karen Wilson as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Karen Wilson will be featured in an upcoming edition of Women of Distinction Magazine's Top 10 Entrepreneur.

COSBY, TN, October 29, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen Wilson, Owner and Master Instructor of Tennessee Taekwondo-Judo College-South (TTJC), has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Karen Wilson will be featured in an upcoming edition of Women of Distinction Magazine's Top 10 Entrepreneur.

Practicing martial arts for more than 20 years, Owner and Master Instructor of TTJC-South Karen Wilson taught at another school for 13 years before finally opening the doors to her own in 2013. Over the past three years, she has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success and she is overjoyed to be able to teach students of all ages, from those walking on the mat for the very first time to those with years and years of dedication and experience, as Owner.

Spending several years working under Grand Master Eun, Wilson also trained and earned a level two coaching status with the US Olympic team instructors. Displaying her level of expertise and immeasurable hours of training and hard work on the mat, she is focusing all of her energy and attention on teaching the fundamentals of Taekwondo-Judo, as well as Kapkito. Due to recent health issues, classes are by appointment only. Students can begin taking lessons as early as age five.

Wilson also teaches self-defense, which, she explains, requires that she properly know the laws that are enforced, as well as the possible consequences should someone decide to defend themselves with physical force.

"I was in a domestic violence situation a long time ago and promised myself that I'd never allow my children or myself find myself back in that same situation again," Wilson explained about her dedication to teaching the art of self-defense today. "I feel that all women should feel safe at all times, at home, at work, and out in the community, and for that reason I do not charge a fee to teach these classes. Helping others recognize the signs of an abuser and what they can do if they are in an explosive relationship, whether it be verbal, mental, physical, or all three, are all a part of what I teach."

Wilson previously spent 15 years working in the non-profit sector. During this time, she witnessed, recorded, and documented some of the treatment females endured by male employees. Although many of these men could have been brought up on charges, most of the women, Wilson said, were given "hush money" in exchange for their silence, making the harassment go undisclosed to the public. Wilson, who was very much bothered by what she was witnessing, later contacted her State Representative and turned over all of the tapes and documentation in an effort to expose the practices at the non-profit. Today, she is working to change the loopholes that other non-profits also seem to find (discriminate, isolate, humiliate, and intimidate) and she hopes that by this time next year new bills will be in enforced to change them.

In 2016, Wilson completed her first book, 'Legends of Zandora' through AuthorHouse Publishing. It is a story about a young girl named Paige who ventures out on her own; her journey taking her to a different world called Zandora. This land is filled with adventure that leaves her wondering if she has the capability to endure the hardships and the means of getting out of situations she finds herself in.
