Are You Covered at Work? New Online Tool Lets North Carolina Workers Check Whether Employers Carry Workers' Comp Insurance

The Raleigh work injury law firm of Younce & Vtipil, PA, announces an easy-to-use way for employees to determine whether the company they work for carries proper coverage in case of a workplace accident.

We hope our new insurance verification tool can help employees and the general public hold companies accountable when they fail to provide a financial safety net for workers who get hurt on the job.

RALEIGH, NC, November 29, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Workers' compensation insurance is intended to provide benefits for people who get hurt on the job. Virtually all employers in North Carolina are required to carry coverage, but many do not. How are workers supposed to know whether they're covered in case they get hurt on the job?

The Raleigh-based law firm of Younce & Vtipil, PA, has launched a new online tool for North Carolina workers to find out whether their employer has coverage - or whether they are working without a safety net.

The free tool, which is available at https://www.attorneync.com/are-you-covered/, taps the North Carolina Industrial Commission's database on employers' insurance coverage. Users simply enter the name of an employer and the site returns information about the company's workers' compensation insurance - or lack of coverage.

"With recent reports showing that thousands of employers in our state lack proper workers' compensation insurance, this tool serves a critical purpose of helping working people discover whether their employer carries the required coverage," said David E. Vtipil, a Board Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation Law. "Individuals who are considering taking a job with a company can also access this service to perform due diligence on their potential employer."

The issue of uninsured employers in North Carolina entered the spotlight recently when the Raleigh News & Observer reported on a statewide crackdown earlier this year.

"In the last year, the state Industrial Commission, responsible for enforcing workers' compensation laws, has cracked down on employers who fail to carry proper insurance," the newspaper reported. "While commission leaders are proud of their progress, they know the problem persists, with workers toiling daily in vulnerable situations."

Vtipil emphasized the importance employers' legal obligation to carry proper workers' compensation insurance. "We hope our new insurance verification tool can help employees and the general public hold companies accountable when they fail to provide a financial safety net for workers who get hurt on the job," he said.
