WAKE FOREST, NC, January 24, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- After weeks of fundraising, Vinson Orthodontics presented the West Johnston High School Food Pantry with a check for $3,000. Orthodontist Dr. Britt Vinson and his staff are proud to contribute to a great cause in the Wake Forest and Clayton communities.

This student-led, non-profit at West Johnston High School is run by faculty members, parents and students in the DoSomething Club to help local families in need of food. This food pantry is one of the only two student-run food pantries in North Carolina.

The food pantry is located on campus and is open one day a week. It is funded by community donations, fundraisers, grants and etc. On average, this high school food pantry feeds over 300 local families a week. Vinson Orthodontics staff had the opportunity to work shifts in the food pantry to see this organization in action.

While volunteering in the food pantry, the staff at Vinson Orthodontics helped West Johnston High School teacher Anissa Holm put together Backpack Buddy bags. The Backpack Buddies are take-home bags filled with hygiene products and nutritious foods.

In 2016, students distributed 93,368 pounds of food and hygiene products, including hurricane relief and Backpack Buddies. That equals more than 51,000 meals in our community!
