Nanny Makes Life Saving Decision

Amsety Bars Creates Fundraising Campaign to Donate to Family Medical Bills

She saved the life of a child in her care by giving a part of herself.

CARLSBAD, CA, May 12, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When you leave your children in the hands of a nanny, you trust them with their daily care and safety. But 21-year old Kiersten Miles, a New Jersey nanny, took her duties several steps further. She saved the life of a child in her care by giving a part of herself.

"I found myself struggling to find a summer job, hoping to become a nanny," shared Kiersten. "When my friend told me she knew a family looking for a nanny, I was so happy."

After seeing a picture of the children, she knew that this family was special, but she noticed the baby girl in the photo had a tube in her nose. Kiersten came to find out that Talia had a liver disease called Biliary Atresia, and the NG tube in her nose provided much needed medication, as well as her overnight feeds. In addition, Kiersten learned that Talia had recently been put on the transplant list to receive a new liver. She began caring for them right away.

Her time was focused on Talia more than with her two older siblings due to age and her medical condition and within in a few short weeks, their bond was extraordinary.

"It amazed me that she had so much going wrong internally, yet she was such a sweet and happy baby," said Miles. "I wanted to do something more, so I started to research what exactly was involved in a living liver transplant."

Within 3 weeks of being Talia's nanny, Kiersten Miles knew what she needed to do. She was going to donate a portion of her liver to Talia, so she had a better chance at life. After her surgery, it only took 5 weeks for her liver to regenerate and Talia came through the surgery very well. Talia's liver will grow normally, as she grows up.

Learning about their story, the founders of Amsety Bars, the first nutrition bar to support liver health, wanted to help Talia's family with the overwhelming financial costs of her liver transplant and medical care, and in addition, help educate others on the importance of Liver Health.

"This means so much to Talia's family and to me. I know so much more about what the Liver does and how important nutrition is for liver health," says Kiersten. "It is important now more than ever that I adopt a healthy diet and carefully choose what I put into my body and frankly, anyone interested in pursuing a healthy diet."

"They say it takes a village to raise a child and we invite everyone to become a part of Talia's village," states Mustafa Behan, founder of Amsety Bars. "What Kiersten did for Talia was amazing. I am hoping Amsety can assist in offsetting those medical costs with this fundraiser and educate everyone on the importance of nutrition for liver health."
