Daryl Theodore Dodson Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

He traveled the world in support of the arts after serving his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Dodson was awarded the 2003 National Touring Broadway Achievement Award for a long career in the performing arts, notably his management of such unforgettable titles as "Les Miserables," "The Phantom of the Opera," and "Amadeus."

Mr. Dodson was born in Warrensburg, Missouri, to Theodore and Ada Marie Dodson in 1934. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Central Missouri State University in 1956 and served with the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. For his first major post in theater, Mr. Dodson became an assistant director for The Mikado at the New York City Opera in 1959, transitioning to a role as regisseur at the Chicago Opera Ballet in 1960. He returned to New York as general manager with the American Ballet Theatre from 1967 to 1977. In 1978, he served as manager on the American tour of the first cultural exchange between the People's Republic of China and the U.S., and worked with the National Ballet of Cuba and the Royal Ballet of England.

In 1981, Mr. Dodson managed the opera house at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington before joining the U.S. and Canadian tour of "Sweeney Todd." From the '80s to the '90s, he served as manager for the "The Wiz," "Les Miserables," "Porgy and Bess," "La Cage Aux Folles," the New York and U.S. tour of the Paris Opera Ballet in 1988, the New York engagement of "The Golden Land," and the American tours of "Amadeus." From 1992 to 2003 Mr. Dodson was responsible for the management of "The Phantom of the Opera."

In addition to an incredible career managing from the wings, Mr. Dodson tried his hand at managing John Curry Skating Co. in 1984, and became the president and proprietor of the Pine Cone Inn in Haverhill, New Hampshire, from 1978 to 1981. He served as a member of the 1974 South Carolina Governor Council of the Arts, and was a member on the 1978 advisory panel of the Vermont Council on the Arts. He is a member of Theta Chi and Theta Alpha Pi. For his dedication to the performing arts, Mr. Dodson was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World, and three volumes of Who's Who in Entertainment from 1989 to 1999.
