Elizabeth Hervey Stephen, PhD, Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Stephen graduated from the University of Texas with a PhD in 1985, and received a Master of Arts from Georgetown University in 1982. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Colorado Women's College. Dr. Stephen has worked for Georgetown University for 30 years. She currently serves the institute as an associate professor, a title she has held since 1993, and served previously as an assistant professor from 1987 to 1993.

Over her career in academia, Dr. Stephen has taught over 2000 students, and she still keeps in touch with almost all of them. One of her proudest career moments was when one of her students received a Rhodes Scholarship. Dr. Stephen was recognized for her outstanding contributions with a Fulbright Fellowship in 2009.

Dr. Stephen's research focus is on infertility and the Republic of Korea. She has published numerous articles in academic and professional journals and has over 2,000 citations. She published the book "At the Crossroads: Fertility of Mexican American Women," in 1989, and the text "South Korea's Demographic Dividend" in 2018, which discusses the demographic and social changes in Korea related to the economic boom period of the previous 50 years. She also published "What I Know Now That I Wish I Knew as a Freshman" in 2012.

Dr. Stephen is a member of the Population Association of America and served the organization as secretary and treasurer from 1996 to 1999. She has been featured in Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in American Women.

Dr. Stephen is the daughter of Dr. Donald Franklin Hervey and Bettie Culbertson Wilcox. Her father was also featured in Who's Who as an educator of Range Science. She has one daughter, Anne Malkoff. In her spare time Dr. Stephen enjoys collecting sand dollars on beach walks, bicycling, and quilting.
