PRESCOTT, AZ, October 03, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Zdzislaw Tadeusz Richard Bieniawski a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Prof. Bieniawski celebrates over 50 years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Prof. Bieniawski is a professor emeritus of the Pennsylvania State University and a distinguished professor of geotechnical engineering at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland. A prolific author with more than 10 technical books and over 200 scientific papers to his name, in part thanks to the help of his wife, Elizabeth Hyslop, a talented editor. Prof. Bieniawski considers these publications his greatest achievement, and is fond of saying "If you have knowledge, you share it through writing."

He holds three doctorates, all in mining and tunnel engineering and was invited as Visiting Professor by universities: Harvard, Stanford and Cambridge, England.

Born in Krakow, Poland, in 1936, Zdzislaw Bieniawski always wanted to be a professor, and had a very high opinion of the profession while in Europe. His early education was at the Gdansk University of Technology in Poland, but in the 1950s, he traveled to Johannesburg in South Africa to attend the University of Witwatersrand, earning a BS and MS in mechanical engineering. In 1968, he further earned a DSc in mining engineering from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

At that time, he was well known in his field in Europe, but felt America was the place where he and his wife could achieve their dreams. In 1977, Prof. Bieniawski became a full professor of mineral engineering at Pennsylvania State University, and was naturalized as a U.S. citizen five years later. He would add the role of professor of science, technology and society to his curriculum vitae in 1994, and served as chair of the U.S. National Committee on Tunneling Technology as well as the U.S. representative to the International Tunnel Association in the '80s. He established Bieniawski Design Enterprises in 1996 to facilitate consulting services in tunnel design.

Prof. Bieniawski's greatest achievement was teaching and forming young minds through lectures, published work and mentoring. He has taught students from 21 countries. As a result of his success, he absolutely believes in the American dream. Prof. Bieniawski's research has been used by tunnel engineers, geologists, the petroleum industry, as well as mining engineers and management planners. His books and articles have been translated into Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, German and Polish.

For his expertise in tunnel engineering, the University of Madrid awarded him the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa and named the Bieniawski Auditorium at their School of Mines in his honor in 2003. In 2010, the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland awarded him his third doctorate in geotechnical engineering: Doctor Honoris Causa and distinguished Adjunct Professor. Prof. Bieniawski was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World. He has three children and nine grandchildren.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Professor Bieniawski has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
