Olesh elected Assistant Treasurer to Philadelphia Bar Association and Karpchuk appointed Secretary of the Tax Section's SALT Committee



    PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 29, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Chamberlain Hrdlicka is pleased to announce that Matthew S. Olesh has been elected Assistant Treasurer to the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association and Jennifer Weidler Karpchuk has been appointed as Secretary of the Philadelphia Bar Association Tax Section's State and Local Tax (SALT) Committee.

Olesh served as Chair of the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2017 and has served in various positions on the YLD Executive Committee since 2012. As YLD Chair, he served as a trustee of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation and the Public Interest Law Center. He also served as a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Cabinet and Board of Governors, and continues on in these capacities as an officer of the organization. Olesh is also an elected Committeeperson for the 30th Ward Democratic Executive Committee, a director and co-founder of the Friends of Chester A. Arthur School Education Foundation, the co-chair of the Philadelphia VIP Recruitment and Retention Committee, and the Chair of the South Street West Civic Association.

Olesh focuses his practice on a wide array of litigation, and brings with him a track record of success and obtaining favorable outcomes for clients. In addition to business litigation, he handles matters involving antitrust, bankruptcy, class actions, corporate governance, employment, environmental compliance and litigation, insurance, international law and business disputes, real estate and white-collar compliance and defense. He holds a bachelor's degree from Emory University and earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Karpchuk is a co-author of the Pennsylvania Tax Handbook, as well as the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Bar Association Tax Section State and Local Tax Committee Property Tax Deskbook. She is a frequent contributor to the firm's SALT blog, as well as State Tax Notes. She recently presented at the 2017 Current Issues in State and Local Taxation seminar hosted by the Philadelphia chapter of the Tax Executives Institute and is slated to speak at the 2018 ABA Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) Advanced Tax Seminars in New Orleans, LA, Mar. 19 - 23, 2018.

Karpchuk represents clients in various matters related to state and local taxation. Her clients include those challenging audit determinations and real estate assessment decisions, seeking refunds from state and local governments, handling administrative appeals, litigating unresolved disputes in state and local courts, and handling post-trial appeals. She received her bachelor's from the University of Delaware and earned a law degree from Temple University School of Law.
