An accomplished listee, Dr. Sprinthall celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Known for his many years in academia, Dr. Sprinthall began his career as the director of financial aid at Brown University in 1955, shortly after earning his BA magna cum laude at the university in 1954. Remaining in position for a total of five years, he also completed an MA in 1959, before being accepted to study at Harvard University. Completing a doctorate in education in 1963, Dr. Sprinthall then accepted an appointment to teach at the Ivy League school as an assistant and associate professor of psychology and program chairman of counseling between 1963 and 1972.

Dr. Sprinthall went on to spend another 22 years in higher education, first at the University of Minnesota where he served as a faculty member, professor of educational psychology, and program chairman of counseling for two years, and the remainder of his career at North Carolina State University, retiring as a professor emeritus in 1995. During the 13-year span that he spent at NC State, Dr. Sprinthall was a professor of psychology and head counselor of the education program. Renowned for his work in psychology, he was admired by faculty and students alike for his enthusiasm and widespread knowledge in the field. He was advisor and/or co-advisor for a total of 55 doctoral students during his tenure at Harvard, Minnesota and North Carolina State. Many are currently serving at a long list of universities.

In the mid to late 1990s, Dr. Sprinthall was the co-director of the Ethical Reasoning Project in Public Administration in the United States, Poland, and Russia. He also served on the board of directors for the Josephson Institute Advancement of Ethics and on the board of advisors for the Character Counts Coalition. An extensive writer who co-authored numerous books, including the 7th edition of "Educational Psychology: A Developmental Approach" in 1998, and "Adolescent Psychology: A Developmental View" in 1984, both texts have been translated into Spanish and Portuguese. Dr. Sprinthall authored and co-authored various other publications and served on the editorial board for several peer-reviewed journals during his tenure.

He is co-recipient with his spouse Dr. Lois Thies-Sprinthall of the Kuhmerker Career Research Award from the Association on Moral Education in 2005, Dr. Sprinthall is an elected fellow and Distinguished Senior Contributor Award winner of the American Psychological Association and longtime member of Phi Beta Kappa. Honored by being named in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World, Dr. Sprinthall is the proud father of three children and eight grandchildren.
