Lois Whealey Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ATHENS, OH, March 05, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lois Whealey with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Whealey celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Over the course of her professional career, Ms. Whealey has made a difference in her community as a teacher, administrator and activist. She began her career as a teacher in the early 1950s, and over the following decade, held a number of positions in early education as a fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade teacher. During this time, she also acted as a teacher of adult basic education with the United States Air Force. In 1974, she began her career in administration, acting as an administrative assistant for a humanities conference at Ohio University for a total of three years. She also acted as a part-time instructor at Ohio University in 1975, and from 1966 to 1968.

Ms. Whealey is renowned in her community for her dedication to various charities, community councils and activism groups. She is actively involved with Democracy over Corporations, Ohio Women, Inc. and Organize Ohio. Aside from her work in the classroom, she was also highly involved with the Athens City Board of Education and the Tri-County Vocational School Board. Over the course of her career, she has supported environmental protection groups and many other community organizations, including the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, the Athens County Regional Planning Commission, the Ohio Environmental Council, the Ohio Alliance for the Environment, the Black Diamond Girl Scout Council and Rural Action. She was also actively involved with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee's National Volunteer Network, an organization dedicated to advancing human rights through grassroots collaboration, and served as president of the local American Association of University Women and League of Women Voters. Since 2006, Ms. Whealey has hosted the Athens Community Television, Cable Channel 1017 program "Women Today and Yesterday."

Ms. Whealey graduated from Ohio University with a Master of Arts in social science in 2007, and a Master of Arts in political science in 1975. She graduated as a member of Phi Kappa Phi (now known as The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi) and Pi Lambda Theta. She also holds a Master of Education from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in history from Stanford University. She has published a number of articles in professional journals.

Ms. Whealey was recognized for her outstanding contributions to her community with numerous awards and commendations. In 2016, she was recognized with a Social Justice Award for Contributions over a Lifetime by the United Campus Ministry (now the UCM) at Ohio University. She also received a Nora Price Award from SEOH Planned Parenthood in 2009, a Social Justice Award by the United Campus Ministry in 2008, a Spirit Award by the League of Women Voters of Athens County in 2002, an Award for Individual Contributions Over a Lifetime by the Ohio Alliance for the Environment in 2002, a Community Service Award by the Athens County Community Services Council in 1998, and the Donna Chen Women's Equity Award by Ohio University in 1994. Among many other honors, Ms. Whealey was also named an Outstanding Feminist by the Athens Herstory Celebration in 2002, and as a Peacemaker by the Appalachian Peace and Justice Network in 1998. Aside from her career success, Ms. Whealey celebrates more than 60 years of marriage with her husband, Robert Howard Whealey. They have three children: Richard William, David John and Alice Ann, and four grandchildren.
