A respected voice in the study of philosophy, Dr. Köchler has authored numerous works pertaining to his areas of expertise. His most recent publications include, "Force or Dialogue: Conflicting Programs of World Order," "World Order: Vision and Reality," "Humanitarian Intervention and Modern Power Politics," "Global Justice or Global Revenge?" and "The Security Council as Administrator of Justice?" In an effort to remain alert of recent developments in philosophy and education, Dr. Köchler maintains involvement with the Austrian Society of Philosophy, International Progress Organization, International Phenomenological Society, and International Academy for Philosophy. He previously served as the president of the Society for Phenomenology and Critical Anthropology for six years, and as member of the Council of Europe's Expert Group on Democratic Citizenship for three years.
Early in his career, Dr. Köchler received a Ph.D. in philosophy, summa cum laude, from the University of Innsbruck in 1972. He went on to join the university as a research assistant, eventually rising to the position of professor of philosophy in 1982. During this time, Dr. Köchler began serving as a chairman of the Committee for Science and Politics. Throughout the course of his career, he has been recognized as a visiting professor with the University of Malaya and Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and as an honorary professor with Pamukkale University.
Since founding the International Progress Organization in 1972, Dr. Köchler has served as the organization's president. He is also recognized as a former member of the board of directors with the Austrian College Society (European Forum Alpbach), coordinator of the International Committee for Palestinian Human Rights, coordinator of the Vienna Center for Global Dialogue, and member of the Advisory Board of the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy, Berlin.
In recognition of his contributions to the field of education, Dr. Köchler has received honorary doctorates from Mindanao State University and Armenian State Pedagogical University. Since 1986, he has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in the World. Dr. Köchler was recently selected to receive the Grand Medal of David the Invincible, which was awarded by the Armenian Academy of Philosophy in 2009. In 2014, he received the Gusi Peace Prize (Philippines).
