William James Ash, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    NEW BERN, NC, April 25, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present William James Ash, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Ash celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. He spent nearly four decades using his training in endocrinology, pathology, reproductive physiology, genetics and statistical methods to conduct research and teach advanced undergraduate students. His extensive experience, dating back to 1955 when he was a graduate research assistant at Cornell University, extended forward with appointments at Cornell, West Virginia, St. Lawrence and Kuwait Universities. He concluded his academic career at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (SUNY), retiring as Professor Emeritus.

Professor Ash also served with the Division of International Programs (India and Pakistan) at the National Science Foundation (NSF). He was a member of the U.S. – Saudi Arabian Joint Economic Commission in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

After graduating from Cornell in February, 1953 he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the army. He completed the Company Officer Course and was assigned to the 36th Quartermaster Composite Battalion at Fort Lee, Virginia. Subsequently, he was assigned to the 7717 Quartermaster School in Lenggries, Germany as a War Dog Training Officer. After returning to the States he ultimately rose to the rank of captain. He worked with the Quartermaster Research and Engineering Command studying the meteorology of Southeast Asia. After twelve years of active and reserve duty he was awarded an honorable discharge.

Dr. Ash was elected to the honor societies Ho-Nun-De-Kah, Scabbard and Blade, Beta-Beta-Beta and Sigma Xi. He has published the results of his research in a variety of refereed scientific journals and received grants from NSF. In 1963, after presenting a research paper at the XI International Congress of Genetics in Den Hague he proceeded to East Germany (GDR), as a guest scientist, to visit research laboratories and to speak at the Institut fuer Gefluegelzucht und Kleintierkunde in Halle.

Dr. Ash enjoys sailing and has served as Commander of the Peconic Bay Sail & Power Squadron (presently with Cape Lookout Sail & Power Squadron as Senior Navigator). Moreover, he has coached in the U.S. Amateur Ice Hockey Association. He has written over one hundred nautical short stories. His formal education began in St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Elementary School in Queens, NY, continued at Brooklyn Technical High School, Brooklyn, NY and on to Cornell.

He was married to Gertrude Louise Kehm for 48 years before her passing. They had five children. His late companion, Gwendolyn Eleanor Rose, resided with him for eleven years.
