In 1991, Mr. Bergeson founded Bergeson LLP (formally known as Bergeson, Eliopoulos, Grady & Gray), where he now serves as founding partner. His practice focuses on all aspects of business litigation, with an emphasis in the areas of intellectual property, securities and derivative litigation, commercial litigation, employment law, and trial and business litigation. He previously served as the managing partner in the London and San Jose, CA, offices of Scates & Rosenblatt and as a law clerk with the United States District Judge of San Francisco, Judge Conte, from 1983 to 1984. He also acted as an associate with a number of firms over the course of his career, including Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosat, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Reuben & Procter and Collier Shannon Rill & Scott, and Fulbright & Jaworski.
Outside of the law firm, Mr. Bergeson applies his legal expertise in a number of different capacities. He co-founded Ascolta Ventures, LLC, and was also the co-founder of ASI, an early stage venture capital firm. He has also served as a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy's deposition and trial advocacy programs, as a neutral with the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program for the United States District Court for the Northern District, and as a mediator for actions filed in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara. Additionally, Mr. Bergeson shared his expertise as an expert in a bench trial in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Barbara. He is also civically engaged with a number of institutions. He acts as a member of the board of advisors of DOOR and as an active member of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, where he currently serves as vice president of the board of governors. He is also a member of the University of Michigan Law's Development and Alumni Relations Committee and has served as a member of the Mediation Panel for the United States District Court, Northern District of California, since 1998.
Mr. Bergeson's father was always involved in politics in Michigan. Through his work in the political arena, Mr. Bergeson was exposed to policy making and the legal industry, which led him to pursue a career in the field. Mr. Bergeson graduated from the University of Michigan with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1982, and received a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University in 1978. He was admitted to practice in the states of California and New York, The Northern, Central, Eastern, and Southern districts of the United States District Court of California, the Ninth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Bergeson attributes his success to his father, Thomas Mulvey, who offered him direction throughout his career. He is also grateful for Larry Sonsini, a partner at one of the firms he worked at, and Judge Conte, both of whom provided mentorship in the beginnings of Mr. Bergeson's professional career. Mr. Bergeson has been married to Diana Clare Rigas for more than 20 years. They have two children, 20 year old John Daniel, who currently studies at his father's alma mater, the University of Michigan, and 22 year-old Samantha, who studies at New York University. When not at work, Mr. Bergeson serves his community as a volunteer and benefactor of the Ronald McDonald House. In his spare time, he enjoys mountain climbing, golf, and running triathlons and marathons.
