With nearly 40 years of experience in the banking industry, Mr. Sharp retired in 2001, having been a lending consultant with the Merchants Bank of New York division of Valley National Bank since 1996. Prior to obtaining this role, he was a lending consultant with Community Mutual Savings Bank from 1992 to 1966, and vice president of the New York job Development Authority from 1986 to 1991. Earlier in his career, he worked with Chemical Bank from 1962 to 1986, serving as vice president of the regular credit committee beginning in 1976.
Mr. Sharp served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army for two years in Korea after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Denison University in 1952. Returning to college, he completed a Master of Arts in History at Columbia University in 1959. Formerly certified as an economic developer, Mr. Sharp has been a longtime member of the Academy of Political Science, the Shenorock Shore Club, the Skytop Club, the Rotary Club, and Omicron Delta Kappa. He has also contributed articles to various professional journals in his area of expertise.
Toward the end of Mr. Sharp's career, he was active as a trustee with the Village of Bronxville in New York for several years. But one of the highlights of his career was during his tenure with the Chemical Bank where he was involved with the Urban Lending Group. Married to his wife Phyllis Stevens since September 1954 with one son, Mr. Sharp has been showcased in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
