Harwood Hoover Jr. Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

With more than 45 years of military, industry and academic experience, Dr. Hoover has been recognized as a Professor Emeritus of Business Administration by Aquinas College since 2014.

With more than 45 years of military, industry and academic experience, Dr. Hoover has been recognized as a Professor Emeritus of Business Administration by Aquinas College since 2014. Previously, he served Aquinas College as Associate Professor and Professor of Business Administration from 1978 to 2014, serving two terms as chairperson of the department. Under his influence, the department developed new degrees in international business and sustainable business, new concentrations in marketing and human resources, new courses in ethics, and implemented a new assessment system deemed "exemplary" by the North Central Association. Prior to these activities, he held marketing positions for Amway, including supervisor of marketing plans from 1977 to 1978 and marketing planner from 1976 to 1977. Dr. Hoover began his career as a Market Analyst at the Upjohn Company from 1975 to 1976 and as an Account Executive with the Martin Marietta Corporation from 1972 to 1973.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Hoover pursued an education at the University of Colorado, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1968. Following this accomplishment, he served in the Navy as gunnery officer and then as CIC Officer aboard a Pacific fleet destroyer. He continued his academic efforts at Western Michigan University, completing a Master of Business Administration in 1974. He then completed the Doctor of Philosophy in business at Michigan State University in 1984.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Hoover has participated in numerous endeavors in his professional and community circles. He has contributed to the advisory board for the World Affairs Council of West Michigan and the Public Transportation Task Force in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also served the community as president of the lake association and chair of the township planning commission for Grattan Township, Michigan. Dr. Hoover was also involved in business consulting, first with Kennedy Research and then independently as Harwood Hoover and Associates. Dr. Hoover found success with his written works, having authored "Scriptural Foundations for Microeconomics" in 2014 and "An Interdisciplinary Approach to Marketing" in 1990, coauthored "Scriptural Foundations for Marketing" in 2013, and published articles in refereed journals. He authored the column "People Matters" for the Grand Rapids Business Journal and served on the board of review for the Christian Business Academy Review.

In addition, Dr. Hoover remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of interest. He has maintained involvement with the United States Naval Institute and the United Methodist Church. Dr. Hoover was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and Delta Upsilon.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Hoover has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his career. A Regular Program Scholar in the Navy Reserve Officers' Training Corps from 1963 to 1968, he was honored by Aquinas College with a Graduate Studies Award for Most Supportive Faculty Member in 1992, the Community Senate Award for Outstanding Faculty Member for 1993-1994, and the Student Body Award for Most Admired Faculty Member in 2008. Additionally, he was presented with the Gallantry Cross Unit Citation from the Republic of Vietnam, the Vietnam Campaign Medal from the U.S. Navy, the Vietnam Service Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Furthermore, Dr. Hoover was selected for inclusion in the 65th edition of Who's Who in America.
