Joanne D. Denko presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ROCKY RIVER, OH, June 28, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles is proud to present Joanne D. Denko, M.D., M.S., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr.Denko celebrates many years' experience in her professional field as a psychiatrist and has become a noted author. With more than 45 years of experience in psychiatry, Dr. Denko is an expert in her field. She began her psychiatry career in residency at the University of Michigan and Ohio State University (1957-1961). She worked in private practice in the Columbus area from 1961 to 1968. She served as a consultant at the Juvenile Diagnostic Center in Columbus from 1967 to 1968. The remainder of her psychiatry career she spent in the greater Cleveland area, first as a staff psychiatrist at Fairview Hospital, then at Lutheran Hospital and then at Cleveland Clinic/Lutheran Hospital. When Case Western Reserve University residents rotated through Fairview, she taught them, as well as Cleveland Clinic residents. Concomitantly, she consulted at the Cleveland VA Hospital (1968 to 1972), in various community mental health clinics in Cleveland and Lorain, and at the juvenile correctional facility. She let her Ohio medical license expire in 2003.

In preparation for her career, Dr. Denko first obtained a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Hope College in 1947. She followed this achievement with a Doctor of Medicine degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1951. She earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Michigan in 1963.

As a leader in her field, Dr. Denko, has been affiliated with several professional and community organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science (for which she reviewed books on various areas of science for children), the Cleveland Astronomical Society (for which she served on the board of directors various times from 1986 to 2018), the Mensa Society International (for which she served as Cleveland branch president from 1986 to 1987), Great Books of the Western World (where she served as chairman of the Rocky River branch from 1994 to 2002), and Kiwanis International. Dr. Denko is a proud member of the Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church.

Dr. Denko has published in psychiatry journals.
