Early in her career, Elizabeth Taylor Brown served on the board of directors of the League of Women Voters in St. Louis, MO.

A retired professor of psychology and academic administrator at West Virginia State University in Institute, WV, Dr. Brown began her career in academia as a lecturer at Case Western Reserve University in 1964. Later becoming an instructor, assistant professor and associate professor at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University between 1964 and 1985, she then accepted her first teaching position at West Virginia State University in 1985, where she also served as the chairman of the department of psychology between 1985 and 1993.

Early in her career, Dr. Brown was a staff psychologist with Standard Oil of Ohio for two years between 1963 and 1965. She was also a consultant psychologist for the Juvenile Court of Cuyahoga County from 1966 to 1967 and a member of the personnel for Research, Inc., in Cleveland, OH, from 1966 to 1981.

Becoming interested in her field after becoming fascinated with not only psychology but also the sciences and philosophy, Dr. Brown enjoyed how they were all interwoven. Enjoying a love for learning, she has since contributed many scholarly articles to professional journals based on her research, in which she took great pride.

A member of Links, Inc., an international, not-for-profit corporation and one of the nation's oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry, Dr. Brown is also a longtime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Early in her career, she served on the board of directors of the League of Women Voters in St. Louis, MO, on the Arts and Education Council in St. Louis, and as a docent at the Self Art Center.

Dr. Brown has been included in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who of American Women. She has held a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio State University since 1952 and a Doctor of Philosophy from Washington University since 1968. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in both Ohio and West Virginia. Marrying her late husband Dallas Coverdale Brown Jr. in 1956, Dr. Brown is the mother of one son and grandmother of one grandson. Enjoying her retirement, Dr. Brown loves to play tennis and paint.
