Dr. Horner began his music career as a percussionist for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in Tel Aviv, Israel from 1978 to 1980. He later became the Director of Percussion Studies at The University of Pittsburgh, where he taught from 1983 until 1996. He also served as a substitute percussionist for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 1989 to 1996. From 1983 to 2018, he was a member of the music faculty at Frostburg State University. Since 1996, Dr. Horner has served as an Assistant Professor of Music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Horner earned a Bachelor of Science in education from his current institution, Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 1988 he earned a Master of Music from Duquesne University, from which he received an Artist Diploma in Timpani in 1992. Dr. Horner went on to obtain a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from West Virginia University in 2005. In concurrence with his teaching role, Dr. Horner has served as a guest conductor, adjudicator and guest lecturer at a number of universities and music schools, including the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. For the past 25 years, he has been the Music Director of the Arion Band of Frostburg, Maryland. Likewise, Dr. Horner has been a member of numerous organizations and has authored several books throughout his professional career. Dr. Horner has also premiered several solo compositions composed for him, including "Toccata for Timpani" by noted American composer Emma Lou Diemer. In addition, he has performed at many of the world's leading performance venues, including Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, La Scala, Teatro Colon, and the Concertgebouw. In 2015 Dr. Horner was a quarter-finalist for the Grammy Foundation's Music Educator of The Year Award. Dr. Horner has been listed in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in the World.
