Walter Borenstein, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    SOUTHBURY, CT, September 14, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Walter Bornstein, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Borenstein celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. In 1969, Dr. Borenstein was employed at the State University of New York at New Paltz. He became a full professor there in 1971 until his retirement in 1992. He served as Chairman of the department there from 1970 to 1980 and was the coordinator for Spanish all the years he was there. He previously taught at Cornell College in Iowa as an associate professor from 1964 to 1969.

Dr. Borenstein's first professional post was at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA where he was an instructor from 1954 to 1957, an assistant professor from 1957 to 1961, and an associate professor from 1961 to 1964. He considers the highlight of his career to be all of the time he dedicated to advising his students over the years, all of whom he had a wonderful relationship with.

His academic pursuits began as a student as the City College of New York from 1942 to 1945. After this, Dr. Borenstein joined the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. After the war, he continued his studies at the University of Illinois where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1947, a Master of Arts in 1949, and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1954. While there, he was fortunate to have the guidance of his professor John Van Horne who was very established in his career. It was his influence that inspired Dr. Borenstein to become a Spanish professor.

As an expert in the field, Dr. Borenstein has contributed many creative works. He has contributed articles on 20th century Spanish literature to professional journals, translated short stories and novels, and published short stories in magazines. In addition, he was the book review editor of the North American Review from 1965 to 1968.

Dr. Borenstein is a member of the American Legion, the Modern Language Association, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and the American Association of University Professors. In 1967, he was awarded an honorable mention for Best Short Story and was honored as a Ford Foundation fellow.
