After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1965, Mr. Bailey studied at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, graduating with an M.A. in 1970. He taught at a Quaker secondary boarding school in Pennsylvania. He taught world religions, which helped him to expand his background. He saw that the horizons of religious studies are broader than he had realized, and he decided to pursue it further. He earned his Ph.D. in Humanities at Syracuse University in 1983, specializing in Psychology and Religion. He then began teaching at Ithaca College in Fall 1983, then was promoted to Associate Professor. During this time, he served as Philosophy and Religion Department Chair, from 1991-1993. He retired from Ithaca College in 2005.
Dr. Bailey is a seasoned writer. He has authored two books and co-edited four books, authored 39 articles in the peer-reviewed Encyclopedia of Psychology and Religion (Springer Publishing), wrote twelve articles in peer-reviewed professional journals or books, six book reviews, and three book prefaces. He has presented 36 papers at professional conferences, a Public Broadcasting/NPR Radio guest talk show on WSKG Radio, and he was the faculty co-host on two semesters of Ithaca College student-produced television programs (ICTV) on world religions. He is currently writing a new book: "Empathy Splashes!"
