Dr. Schall helps small to medium-sized manufacturing companies utilize SOS's COMPETE program to achieve business goals

FRONT ROYAL, VA, October 26, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan O. Schall, PhD, is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are chosen from among a pool of the most prominent professionals and are selected based on current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.

Drawing upon more than three decades of professional experience, Dr. Schall serves as Founder and Operations Leader of SOS Consulting, LLC. In this position, she is noted for working with manufacturing leaders to maximize company performance and deliver unique value to customers. Dr. Schall helps small to medium-sized manufacturing companies utilize SOS's COMPETE program to achieve business goals while delivering shared value for employees, customers and communities with new perspectives using a unique combination of core competencies that cannot be easily imitated by competitors.

Prior to pursuing an engineering career, Dr. Schall considered becoming a patent attorney due to her interest in math and science. She received a significant amount of guidance from her father, who encouraged women in sciences, and her grandfather, who worked as a carpenter and encouraged her love of building. While visiting schools and researching pre-law programs, Dr. Schall quickly learned that law degrees did not typically involve the studies she enjoyed. She confided her concerns in her father, who attended a Lions Club meeting and spoke with a lawyer who studied engineering as an undergraduate. With her father's encouragement, Dr. Schall began researching engineering, which eventually led her to the field of industrial engineering.

Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1981, Dr. Schall went on to attend Pennsylvania State University, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering in 1982, Master of Science in industrial engineering in 1986, and PhD in industrial engineering in 1988. Although she had initially considered her engineering education to be a stepping stone toward a legal career, Dr. Schall found her calling as an industrial engineer. She has been recognized as an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence and Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Early in her career, Dr. Schall worked as quality engineer for Kodak Paper Manufacturing, consulting engineer for the DuPont Quality Management & Technology Center, and technical superintendent of control systems with DuPont Engineering Polymers. She briefly served as methodology director with RR Donnelley, Inc., before establishing SOS Consulting, LLC, in 2004. She is especially proud of the work she completed with her first client and hopes to continue making a difference in small US organizations and for the lives of the people who work in those organizations.

Dr. Schall has received numerous honors in recognition of her contributions to industrial engineering. She was awarded an Outstanding Engineering Alumna Award from the Penn State College of Engineering in 2009, Distinguished Service Award from the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society in 1999, and Engineering Excellence Bronze Awards from DuPont Engineering in 1992 and 1990 respectively. In addition, Dr. Schall has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including the 69th and 70th editions of Who's Who in America, which were published between 2014 and 2016.

A respected voice in her fields of expertise, Dr. Schall has contributed numerous articles to professional journals. She currently serves as a chair of the ASQ Freund-Marquardt Medal Committee, and as an Internet liaison with the Northern Shenandoah Valley Section of ASQ. A fellow of ABET, Dr. Schall has been recognized as a consultant with the organization since 2014. She previously served as an adjunct training director, member of the board of directors and engineering accreditation commissioner. For more than two decades, Dr. Schall also served as a member of the Industrial and Professional Advisory Council with the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Pennsylvania State University. Se. Schall also enjoys mentoring young women. She mentors Penn State industrial engineering undergraduate and graduate students each semester and supports the Engineering Project Lead the Way students in her local public schools.
