Q: What does being a Consumer Choice Award winner mean to you? How did winning the Consumer Choice Award impact your business?
A: This is the first year we have won the Consumer Choice Award, so it's hard to say how it will affect our business so far. I hope it will do great things for our business. It was an honour to win a Consumer Choice Award this year and we are excited to see what is in store.
Q: What makes your business unique in the market?
A: I think what makes us unique is our experience. I have over 32 years in the countertop business, including measuring, installing, and manufacturing. I know this business very well. We have a small team here, but all of them have many years of experience, too. Our receptionist has been in the countertop business most of her life, and our installer and manufacturer have both been in the industry for over 10 years. We have a tight-knit team who are all knowledgable and committed to giving our customers the best possible product, something they will be satisfied with for years to come.
Q: What is ONE characteristic that you believe helped you through your career?
A: I think one characteristic that has helped me through my career is integrity. This is a characteristic that I've tried to exemplify throughout my 32 years in the countertop business. I believe in honesty, and doing what is right. This might not always get you ahead in the business world, but our business tries to hold to this, nonetheless. I believe in the long run, this does help build a business. People value integrity and honesty, and I think this helps our customers realize that they can trust us and we will do right by them.
Q: What is the next priority for your business?
A: The next priority for the business is growth. We are looking at the possibility of expanding into the Hamilton area in the upcoming new year. Nothing is certain yet, but we are thoughtfully considering this. We believe there could be a need for countertop installation and replacement in the Hamilton area that Zeke and Company could fill.
Q: How do you keep up with the trends in your industry?
A: We try to keep up with the trends as best we can. We are constantly changing our showroom to reflect the newest trends. We continuously update and add new colours to our collection to keep up with what is popular. We have laminate, quartz, and affinity samples in our showroom in many new colours.
In addition to keeping up with popular colours and styles, we also try to maintain a great web presence. We've only been up and running for about two years, but already we have lots of wonderful reviews on our Google Business page and Facebook page. We also keep our Facebook page updated with pictures from installations so that prospective customers can see the great work we do. Social media and reviews are very important nowadays in attracting new customers, so we do our best to keep up!
Q: Where do the great ideas come from in your organization? (Team decisions, management decision etc.)
A: The great ideas in our organization come from our whole team. Whenever we come up against a big decision, the input from each of our team members is valued and considered. As a small team of only four, including myself, everyone is encouraged to contribute ideas and opinions.
Q: What are the "core values" of your organization?
A: Our slogan has always been, "A job well done is the best advertisement". At Zeke and Company, our core values are excellent workmanship and quality, professionalism, integrity, commitment to customers, and teamwork.
Q: Does your company use social media? If so, how had it changed your business/organization?
A: As I mentioned above, we realize the importance of a social media presence. Starting up a new business, self-promotion through our Facebook page and our website was very important when we were trying to get the word out about our new shop location. Now that we have established a bit of a presence, we are working hard to maintain it. We encourage customers to review us on our Google Business page or Facebook if they are satisfied with our work, and we try to post before and after photos so customers can see what a countertop replacement can do for their kitchen, bathroom, or any other room! We've had several customers stop by our shop because they said they noticed our excellent reviews online. Social media has definitely helped us promote our business and attracted new customers to us.
GETTING TO KNOW ZEKE WIENS:
If you could only use ONE word to describe yourself, what would it be?... If I could only use one word to describe myself, I hope it would be integrity. I hope those around me would say that I am a man of integrity. As stated earlier, this is a very important character trait to me and Zeke and Company.
Where is your dream vacation destination/place?... I think my dream vacation would be Australia. I would love to go to Australia on a road trip.
What movie title best describes your life?... I think Forest Gump-because life really is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll get! This is true in my business, and in my personal life, too.
What is your favourite quote?... "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men do nothing."
If all jobs had the same pay and hours, what would you do?... I would love to be a waiter. I love people and talking with them. I love hosting big family or friend meals at our home. Unfortunately, the hours of a waiter wouldn't work well with my wife's hours and I'd never see her! Maybe in retirement?
