Akira Paul Matsushima Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Since 2005, Mr. Matsushima has been the president of Matsushima Management in Williamsburg, VA. Six years prior, he held the role of president of the same company in Inverness, IL. From 1985 to 2000, he worked at the Chicago Rawhide Manufacturing Company in Elgin, IL a division of SKF, where he was the senior vice president from 1995 to 2000. From 1985 to 1990, Mr. Matsushima spent five years as the director of Chicago Rawhide Manufacturing in both Mexico and Canada.

Mr. Matsushima was the director and executive vice president of Koyo-CR in Tokushima, Japan from 1985 to 1998. Before holding these positions, he had the role of deputy general manager of the engineering division at NOK Corporation in Tokyo, Japan for two years. His involvement with NOK-USA Inc. was as secretary from 1979 to 1982, as director from 1971 to 1985, and as vice president in 1970. In addition, he held the executive vice president position of NOK-USA Inc. in Chicago, IL from 1970 to 1983 and director of engineering in Los Angeles, CA from 1970 to 1972. Prior to moving to the United States in 1970, Mr. Matsushima had involvement in the NOK Corporation in Tokyo, Japan from 1961.

Since 2005, Mr. Matsushima has been an executive partner and Japan co-coordinator of the Graduate School of Business at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Beginning in 2012, he spent two years as a senior adviser at Arai Seisakusho Ltd. He was the senior adviser at Hi-Tech Arai, Inc. from 2008 to 2010, the senior adviser at Azuma Forestry Research Association in Gunma, Japan from 2006 to 2011, and the comisario at P.T. Arai Rubber Seal Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia from 2002 to 2004. During those same two years, Mr. Matsushima served as vice president of the board of directors at Nihon Clin Company Inc. in Virginia Beach, VA.

From 2001 to 2006, Mr. Matsushima held multiple posts at ARAI Americas, Inc., including as a member of the board of directors, president, secretary and treasurer. Extending across continents, he was involved with the PLACO Company Ltd. from 1999 to 2009. From 1991 to 1995, he was the president of K.C. Engineering Ltd., for which he served as chairman from 1989 to 1995. Additionally, Mr. Matsushima was a Japanese government delegate of the International Organization for Standardization from 1973 to 1978.

Pursuing academics at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, Mr. Matsushima earned a Bachelor of Science in 1961 and a Master of Mechanical Engineering in 1964. Following these accomplishments, he received a Master of Management degree at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 1981. Mr. Matsushima became a registered professional engineer in California in 1976.

Mr. Matsushima is also involved in the community in numerous capacities. He had the post of commissioner to General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America in 2001. From 1993 to 1995, he was the president of Oak Crest Residence in Elgin, IL. Mr. Matsushima was also involved with United Way in Elgin, IL as vice president of planning from 1991 to 1992 and as a member of the governing board from 1988 to 1996. Mr. Matsushima also was the fund director and chair of the western division at Junior Achievement in Chicago, IL from 1988 to 1989, and a member of the governing board from 1990 to 1998. He also held the positions of elder, trustee, and deacon at the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America. Mr. Matsushima is a member of the National Society of Engineers, the International House of Japan, and is on the advisory board and seals committee of the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Mr. Matsushima has numerous patents in the field, both in Japan and the United States. Recently, he authored "Abe-Matsushima Family: Biographical Family History over 1600 Years." He presented "Aki Matsushima, My Lifetime Story," a film presentation, in 2018, and has contributed articles to professional journals. In 2012, he received a certificate of appreciation from the board of advisors at the Society of Automobile Engineers, and in 1986, he was awarded the same certificate from the seals committee. Mr. Matsushima has previously been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
