Inspired by the new movement in social history that developed in the late 1960s, Dr. Victor Bailey has always been interested in the development of contemporary culture and ideas.

In 1969, Dr. Bailey earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Warwick. He went on to earn a Master of Philosophy in criminology from the Institute of Criminology at the University of Cambridge in 1970 and a Doctor of Philosophy in history from the University of Warwick in 1975. After serving as a research fellow at the University of London's Institute of Historical Research and senior research fellow at Oxford University, he went on to work as a lecturer at the University of Hull in England. Dr. Bailey most recently worked as a professor at the University of Kansas, where he taught from 1988 to 2018.

Due to his unmatched academic expertise, Dr. Bailey has written several professionally-relevant monographs, including "Delinquency and Citizenship," "'This Rash Act': Suicide Across the Life Cycle in the Victorian City" and "Charles Booth's Policemen: Crime, Police and Community in Jack-the-Ripper's London." A work entitled "The Rise and Fall of the Rehabilitative Ideal, 1895-1970" is forthcoming. He has been recognized with numerous awards in his field, including the Walter D. Love Prize, the Higuchi Research Achievement Award and the W.T. Kemper fellowship for teaching excellence. Known in his field for his focus and intellectual drive, Dr. Bailey was also the recipient of a research fellowship by the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1999.

Inspired by the new movement in social history that developed in the late 1960s, Dr. Bailey has always been interested in the development of contemporary culture and ideas. He was notably the director of the Joyce & Elizabeth Hall Center for the Humanities from 2000 to 2017, helping facilitate his colleagues' research, making information on the humanities available to the public and demonstrating impressive professional longevity. Interest in field-related developments, Dr. Bailey belongs to the American Historical Association, the North America Conference on British Studies and the Social Science History Association. He has been honored in Who's Who in America as well as Who's Who in the World.
