Mr. Perlmutter earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandeis University in 1956, a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan in 1959 and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Brandeis University in 1995. He was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts in 1959 and in New York in 1961.

After practicing law for five years in New York City, Mr. Perlmutter became an assistant to the president of New England Industries, a diversified consumer and industrial products company where he developed acquisition and investment opportunities. Drawn to investment banking, Mr. Perlmutter began his Wall Street career in 1975 at White Weld & Company where he established one of the first Wall Street merger and acquisitions departments. When White Weld was acquired by Merrill Lynch, he became a managing director and head of Merrill Lynch's worldwide merger activities. In 1977 he joined Lazard Freres where he had a 30 year tenure as a senior partner and ultimately as a senior executive managing director.

Celebrated for a career with noteworthy accomplishments, Mr. Perlmutter was the principle advisor in several of the world's largest and most prestigious mergers and acquisition transactions while at Merrill Lynch and Lazard Freres.

In addition, Mr. Perlmutter has over 30 years' experience in Track II diplomacy involving dialog on economic and foreign policy issues with heads of state, business leaders, clergy and institutions throughout the Middle East including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Israel and Palestine as well as in Europe.

He has had significant civic involvement serving as the first alumni to be chairman of the board at Brandeis University where he strengthened the university's administrative leadership. He also served as the chairman of the boards of the American Jewish Congress, the AJC Transatlantic Institute and the Economic Advisory Council of the Middle East Project at the Council on Foreign Relations, chairman of the executive committee of the United Nations Association of the USA. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Harvard Medical International, Phoenix House Foundation, and on the advisory board of Foreign Affairs, considered to be the single most influential publication in the foreign policy field.

Currently, Mr. Perlmutter serves on the boards of Harvard Medical School, American Jewish Committee where he is an honorary vice president, Blaustein Institute of Human Rights, Brandeis University and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Mr. Perlmutter was the recipient of Brandeis University's Alumni Achievement Award, the American Jewish Committee's Human Relations Award and was honored at Israel Policy Forum and Phoenix House Foundation tribute dinners. He has been recognized in numerous publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the East. Mr. Perlmutter has also contributed several articles to professional journals in his field.
