Mr. Mann began his career as a guest lecturer at the Corcoran College of Art of George Washington University in 1978 and 1979.

Mann has participated in hundreds of group exhibitions and more than twenty-five one person exhibitions; all of his work has been well received. Mr. Mann's work as an author had its genesis in the publication of his work as a screenwriter for the film "Eye of the Painter" and his accompanying illustrations for the book "Nerves", both in 1992. He contributed to catalogues for exhibitions, which included museum catalogues, issues of Blast Magazine to which he was a contributor, as well as various portfolios including the Notebook of COLAB Arts, which are all in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Mr. Mann's articles and essays have been published in professional journals beginning with "The Optical Machine" of NAP Text(s) in 1998. His essays have appeared in various books, including for example, "ASCA, The American Society of Contemporary Artists" in 2001, archived in the collections of the Frances Mulhall Achilles Library of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and the Thomas J. Watson Library of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
Mann's essays took a more critical turn in his "A Poetic Conjuror of Geometric Beauty" in 2006. He created the book for the exhibition "Oculus, A Survey Exhibition" for the Broome Street Gallery, New York, which appears in the collection of the Smithsonian Archives of American Art, Washington, D.C. Still other essays included "Then and Now, The American Society of Contemporary Artists" in 2012, and later, in works like "The History of Seeing, Part I" in 2014, he demonstrated a fitting corresponding component to his dominant visual art career interests. In addition to his principal career as a visual artist, educator, and author, Mr. Mann has contributed to numerous charitable organizations including Thorn, Los Angeles, in 2018, and Artworks for Charity, New York, since 2016. Also, in response to the crisis of AIDS, the Children's Friends for Life in 1997, a concern that he contributed to via his own work through Visual Aids, New York, as well as the Association D'Aides, Paris, from 2009 to the present day. Mann contributed to the New Jersey Foundation for the Blind in 2007 and the Coalition for the Homeless, New York, in 1998, via works purchased through their respective benefit auctions. Among the various charitable residencies, he was a visiting artist to the Coalition for the Homeless Camp in 1997 and most recently to Free Arts NYC.
Mr. Mann has maintained an affiliation with several prestigious and avant garde professional organizations. He found success with the Basic Arts Network as founder and director from 1989 to 1990, and also with Collaborative Projects, Inc. (COLAB) as Executive Director from 1987 to
1988. Mann has served as the art historian for the American Society of Contemporary Artists since 2007, as well as vice president from 2003 to 2018.
Mr. Mann's extensive history with the New York Artists Equity Association, Inc. included serving as vice president from 2003 to 2016, and on the board of directors from 2000 to 2016. His association with the Drawing Society engaged the years from 1996 to 1999. Before setting on the path of his professional career, Mr. Mann pursued his formal education. He graduated from High Point University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences/Biology under the geneticist Dr. Leo Weeks in 1972. Following his return to Washington, D.C. and the shift of focus to a fine arts curriculum, he continued his studies at George Washington University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978. Mr. Mann supplemented his education and experience with studies in art history at Columbia University, as well as attending the Whitney Graduate Seminars in Contemporary Art at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, in 1980. He credits Kent Floeter and John Cage, both of whom he met in 1980-81 with helping him find his way in terms of his own professional development. He was presented with a Master of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, in 1981. Mann extended his education when he interned with the artist Dorothea Rockburne where he gained exposure to a variety of studio skills and a greater knowledge of artistic practice. Only much later did Mann receive an Honorary Associative degree presented by the Accademia Italia in Arte nel Mondo Associazione Culturale, in Lecce, Italy in 2017. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters degree in recognition of distinguished achievement presented by the International Biographical Centre, in Cambridge, England in 2018.
In light of his exceptional accomplishments, Mr. Mann has been recognized worldwide for his work and he has accrued numerous accolades, honors and awards. Mr. Mann was chosen Artist of the Year for 2018 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) in New York, and in the same year, he was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of outstanding achievement. In 2017, he was the recipient of the International Prize for Human Rights, in tribute to Victor Hugo, for his work's "universality and a unique language that draws on the dimension of a transcendental world". Mann also received the Premier Leonardo Da Vinci International Award presented by International Contemporary Art Magazine of Florence, Italy, in 2017.
In 2016, Mr. Mann received the High Recognition Il Beato Angelico Award and the International Human Rights Award, presented by the Accademia Italia in Arte nel Mondo Associazione Culturale of Lecce, Italy, in recognition of his significant artistic activities completed during 2016. He received the Sandro Botticelli Prize, presented by EA Editore Publishers of Rome in 2015. The American Society of Contemporary Artists presented him with the Elaine Alibrandi Award in painting in 2013, the Roy Moyer Memorial Award in 2012, and the Premiere Certification of Honors in Graphics in 2010.
Additionally, Mr. Mann was the recipient of the Lorenzo Il Magnifico Medal for painting from the Biennale Internazionale Dell' Arte Contemporanea of Florence, Italy in 2001, the Certificate of Honors from the Art Addiction Gallery of Stockholm, Sweden in 1999, as well as the Mabel Sanger Webb Award and the Ford Foundation Grant in 1980. His distinguished work has been recognized as a Grantee of the Department of Cultural Affairs for the City of New York in 1989, the New York State Council on the Arts in 1988, the National Endowment for the Arts through the New Arts Program in 1987 and 2009, and Art Matters, Inc. in 1991 among others. Mr. Mann has been chosen to be the Honorary Recipient of the Pablo Picasso Art Award to be presented in 2018 by the Italian Academy of Art of the World on the 80th Anniversary of the exhibition of the "Guernica".
