Susan Elizabeth S. Brown Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Susan Elizabeth S. Brown was honored in 2000 with a Matthew I. Wiencke Award for excellence as a secondary school teacher.

An accomplished listee, Ms. Brown celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. A retired secondary school educator, Ms. Brown has taught Latin and French at various schools throughout the northeast. First hired by the Pinkerton Academy in Derry, New Hampshire, in 1964, she later taught at the Shelter Island High School in New York in 1972 and the Woodsville High School in Haverhill, New Hampshire, between 1974 and 1988. She was then hired to teach at the Thetford Academy in Thetford, Vermont, where she remained until 2003. During this time, she also served as a telecommunications coordinator at Thetford Academy between 1993 and 1994. In 1968, Ms. Brown also lent her expertise as an administrative secretary for the New England Board of Higher Education and the New England Council for Higher Education for Nurses, in Durham, New Hampshire.

In addition to her full-time teaching roles, Ms. Brown was an adjunct professor of English composition with the Community College System of New Hampshire, notably working at the River Valley Community College in Claremont and the White Mountains Community College in Littleton and Woodsville, and at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She also lent her expertise as a committee advisor for the National Latin Exam and New Hampshire Humanities. A longtime member and former president and treasurer of the New Hampshire Classical Association, she also belongs to Sigma Tau Delta and the Classical Association of New England, where she served as an executive board member for many years.

Ms. Brown has been volunteering for both the Osher Lifelong Learning Center at Dartmouth College and Court Appointed Special Advocates since 2004. Locally, she lent her expertise as a trustee chair for the Haverhill Library Association in New Hampshire between 1978 and 1988 and again between 2002 and 2004. Furthermore, she was a town library trustee, a moderator for the Haverhill UCC and treasurer for the Latham Library in Thetford, Vermont.

Ms. Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in 1963 and a Master of Arts in liberal studies at Dartmouth College in 1986. She has also completed postgraduate coursework at Long Island University in Brookville, New York, and the University of Geneva in Switzerland. She is a certified professional educator level II and certified librarian and media specialist level I in the state of Vermont. Honored in 2000 with a Matthew I. Wiencke Award for excellence as a secondary school teacher, Ms. Brown has also been cited in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women.
