Dr. John C. Morse received the Emeritus Award for Research and Scholarship from the Clemson University Emeritus College in 2018.

With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Morse has been recognized as professor emeritus of Clemson University since 2008, having been a professor of entomology from 1983 to 2008. In these positions, he frequently taught such courses as Aquatic Insects, the Taxonomy of Immature Insects, Special Topics in Entomology, and Applied Systematics. Prior to obtaining this role, he was an associate professor with the university from 1978 to 1983, attaining tenure in 1979. From 1975 to 1978, he was an assistant professor, and he was a visiting assistant professor from 1974 to 1975. Earlier in his career, Dr. Morse was a postdoctoral research associate with the University of Georgia in 1974. He commenced his career as a research assistant at the Michigan Institute for Fisheries Research in 1967 and a graduate research assistant at Clemson University in 1968.
Alongside his primary teaching appointments, Dr. Morse has been an associate member of the graduate faculty at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte since 2017, a research associate at the Powdermill Nature Reserve at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History since 2017, a guest professor at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China since 2012, and a guest professor at the Nanjing Agricultural University in China since 1998. Likewise, he has also been an affiliated graduate faculty member at Western Carolina University since 1989 and an adjunct professor at Auburn University since 1979. Subsequent to attaining emeritus status at Clemson University, he briefly served as a distinguished off-campus scholar at Miami University in Ohio for four years between 2011 and 2015. Earlier in his career, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville from 1990 to 1993 and a visiting scholar at the Natural Museum of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, in 1981.
Dr. Morse began his career as a student at Davidson College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1968. He continued his studies with Clemson University, completing a Master of Science in entomology in 1970. He concluded his education with the University of Georgia, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in entomology in 1974. In addition, Dr. Morse served with the United States Army Reserve from 1970 to 1978.
Throughout his career, Dr. Morse has been recognized for his contributions. He received Distinguished Service awards from the Clemson University College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences Alumni Association, the Society for Freshwater Science, and the Alumni Association of The Children's Home of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and he was given the Distinguished Research Leadership Award from the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics. He was named the Best Scientist for Nature and Environment in Mongolia, as presented by the Mongolian Ambassador at the Mongolian Embassy in Washington, DC, and he was twice given the Clemson University Chapter, American Association of University Professors, Award of Merit. Most recently, he received the Emeritus Award for Research and Scholarship from the Clemson University Emeritus College in 2018. In addition, he has had 19 species of insects in four orders named by colleagues in his honor. Dr. Morse has been featured in the 66th edition of Who's Who in America.
