This Startup Is Working to Fix Our Broken Healthcare System Through Crowdfunding

CoFund Health has a fresh approach to fundraising for healthcare needs

"We have a social mission to change lives through better access to affordable healthcare."

RALEIGH, NC, February 01, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A North Carolina based startup, CoFund Health, announced the launch of their new crowdfunding platform to help people raise money for healthcare expenses. The company hopes to provide an alternative to sites like GoFundMe by providing donors a more secure platform to ensure their donations are going to real healthcare expenses.

"More than 1 in 4 Americans have had significant financial difficulty paying for their healthcare costs," says Matthew Martin, Cofounder of CoFund Health. "People want to help as evidenced by the popularity of campaigns on other crowdfunding sites, but unfortunately many donors have also seen their funds on those platforms used for purposes outside what the donations were for."

Recently GoFundMe and other crowdfunding websites have received a slew of bad press tied to campaign donations being used for purposes outside the bounds of what they were intended. CoFund Health's solution is to only allow campaign creators to access their donations for prescription medications, doctor and hospital bills, as well as health insurance premiums and deductibles. This is vastly different from other platforms which issue cash payments.

The Raleigh based startup is founded by Matt Martin and Burke Williams. Matt is a West Point graduate and Army veteran, and is also a veteran of the healthcare industry, previously serving as a Vice President at fast-growing TrialCard, a pharmaceutical access services company. Burke, another healthcare industry veteran, worked for more than 15 years developing innovative patient support solutions as a leader and Vice President at TrialCard.

CoFund Health currently has over a dozen campaigns created on the platform. Their goal for 2019 is to help people raise over $10M in donations. "As more and more people see the power of crowdfunding, especially when it comes to the impact it can have on the increasing access to affordable healthcare, there's a lot of opportunity for CoFund Health," says Burke. "We have a social mission to change lives through better access to affordable healthcare."
