Ms. Costin is a professional engineer and the principal owner of Costin Engineering, Inc. in Jacksonville, Fla. since 2012. In addition to running her business, she is a longtime project manager for the City of Jacksonville since 1990. She also spent six years as the City's engineer manager between 2004 and 2012.

In her field for nearly 50 years, Ms. Costin began working in her home country of Romania as a design engineer for the Institute of Mining in Bucharest. She then became a project engineer for Machine Construction in Bucharest before making her way to the U.S. in 1981. Securing a position almost immediately upon her arrival in the states, she began working in Jacksonville, Fla. as an engineer III for the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation. She then served as a design engineer for Aikenhead Engineering and as a project engineer for Smith & Gilespie Engineers.

Over the past two decades, Ms. Costin has been busy writing. The author of "Short Stories: The Story of a Refugee" in 1997, she later authored seven more books, including "America: The Final Destination" in 2006 and "Pearls on a String: Love Songs" in 2006, vol. 2, 2009. Ms. Costin has notably been honored with an Editor's Choice Award by Poetry.com in 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2006. She was also named Poet Laureate by the International Library of Poetry in 2002 and received a President's Award for Literature Excellence by the National Authors Registry in 2003.

Ms. Costin is a longtime member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Public Works Association, the Florida Engineering Society and Toastmasters International. She has been cited in the 57th through 61st editions of Who's Who in America, the eighth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, the 21st edition of Who's Who in the World and the 24th edition of Who's Who of American Women.

Born in Salonika, Greece to Stefan and Steliana Costin, Ms. Costin has always been inspired by her father, a former professor of mathematics who had a great love of books and higher education. Also influenced by Inginer Vasile Rosu, a relative and famous hydrotechnical engineer, Ms. Costin went on to pursue an MS in Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Hydrotechnical Construction in Bucharest in 1969. She later completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Florida in 1985 and has since become a PhD candidate at the university's school of engineering and hydraulics. She is a registered professional engineer in Florida.

Still residing in Jacksonville all these years later, Ms. Costin enjoys spending her free time by being active. She especially enjoys running, skiing, weightlifting, dancing and practicing yoga. She also loves to read and write.
