LAKE PLACID, NY, February 28, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Paul Reiss, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Reiss celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Paul Reiss pursued a career in high education, he earned a bachelor of science degree at Holy Cross College, a master of science degree at Fordham University, and a Ph.D. in social relations at Harvard University. He held an appointment for six years on the faculty at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Reiss then held a faculty appointment at Fordham University for 22 years, during which he served successively as Chairman of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Dean of the College at Lincoln Center, Vice President for Academic Affairs and for ten years as Executive Vice President of the University. He was also active in professional organizations including many years as editor of the journal, The Sociology of Religion, and as an active member of the American Sociological Association and the Association of the Sociology of Religion. When he left Fordham University, the President, Joseph O'Hare, S.J. said "Paul's service to Fordham as teacher and administrator has been characterized as distinguished; his achievement have been called outstanding; and the love and devotion that reigns in the Reiss family are nothing less than remarkable."

Paul Reiss then served as President of Saint Michael's College in Vermont for 11 years before retiring in 1996. In his retirement years he served actively in several international and community projects, including the continuation of his management and support of the summer educational camp programs for boys and girls from Hispanic communities in New York City. These programs, which later included the Nativity Middle School, were very successful, with twice as many of the school-camp graduates completing high school and attending college as did other Hispanic children from the same neighborhoods. About 80 similar school-camp programs throughout the country followed the "Nativity model." Dr. Reiss passed on his responsibilities, which he assumed in 1960, to his sons and daughters around 2010.

Dr. Reiss was also in 2007 the founding President of Mercy Care for the Adirondacks which has a mission of extending love and mercy to elders so as to enable them to enjoy as full a life as possible, living in their own homes and communities for as long as possible. At this time about 150 trained friendship volunteers are extending love and mercy to about 120 elders living in their own homes in the communities of the Tri Lakes area of the Adirondacks. Paul Reiss has also served on the Board and as President of the Lake Placid Sinfonieta and has received honorary degrees from Showa University in Japan, Middlebury College, and Saint Michael's College.
